303 Aerospace spray silicone product. Google it.

 

I tried this as well as regular silicone lube when mine was creaking and it didn't work. Whatever they ended up using was quite thick.

 

Update:

Just had the car in for service and had them work on the noisey roof again. They install "revised" clips on something they called the sunroof cassette.

So far, much better.

 

2 months in and still less than 1000 miles. sunroof has been creaky since day one, only when closed.

 

Clean the seal and see if that helps. In dry climates the dust accumulates and causes creaking not apparent in rainy climates.

 

Push up on the headliner just aft of the sunroof. Does it make the noise you hear?

 

My 2009 XF (48K miles) never made a noise and neither does my 2012 XF (8K miles).

 

yes, pushing up on the headliner is the noise i hear.

 

That was the noise I had as well.

Go to your dealer and schedule a service. They will need to order the clips, takes a day or two to get them in.

Let us know if this fixes the problem - I suspect that my MY12 Premium Luxury has an identical problem (headliner squeak and sunroof rattle).

 

one day in and problem fixed. they refer to it as a "sunroof seal". the reference numbers are different than what 10 XF Premium posted above i was told, i suppose because i have a 2012 Portfolio. they had the parts in stock and it took less than 2 hours for them to call me and let me know it was done. creaking noise 100% gone. they'd obviously dealt with this issue before. keeping my fingers crossed it stays fixed

looks like Technical Bulletins JTB00209 and JTB00240NAS1 and parts C2D7817-foam block plus C2Z11576-headliner clip x 2.

12K miles and not a sound.....

 

I have the same problem. In my car if I bump the sunroof surround in front of the sunroof I can produce the rattle. I talked to a friend who used to work for Jaguar and he said it is a common problem and he used to send the cars to a body shop to weld some plastic pieces together. The dealer will give it a try and if they can't fix it I will ask them to let me take it to the body shop that fixed the others.

Mine sunroof creaks as well. I brought mine in back in July last year and they cleaned whatever was dirty. Afterwards, I went two months without a creek over the last year it has slowly came back. I'll bring it up when I take it in for my annual service next month.

 

My 2010 is very quiet

 

I know about the 303 stuff and use it for other problems but......the sun roof squeak is another story. Try Mequirs Leather liquid/spray cleaner/protector on the surrounding seal and use generously and then wipe off the excess. I bet it will solve your problem.......it did for me.

 

After one year, my 2012 XF sunroof creaks. I now remember I test drove the car again just before delivery, and heard the squeak. They replaced a broken clip, and off I went with my new XF.Taking mine to dealership this week...will update thread after servicing.
My wife also has a '12 XF, no squeaks or rattles in her sunroof.
