Alternator overcharging?
My wife's 2011 XF alternator died, I replaced it this weekend, and now my diagnostic tool says it si ovecharging. LOL, I can't win, changing the alternator on an XF is a total pain in the butt.
The tool claims 14.79v loaded, 14.88volts unloaded (the load being merely "rev to 2500rpm") and ripple of 39mv.
My 2018 Ridgeline reads 14.43, 14.54, and 40mv respectively, not miles lower.
Is this actually an overcharge, or just high normal?

Hi kenc,
The battery charging strategy is computer controlled, so if your battery is somewhat depleted, a higher charging rate may be commanded. Check your voltages again after a good drive when the battery has had some time to recharge.
To test the alternator output under load, turn the headlamps on and to high beam, and turn the HVAC blower motor to high, then check your voltages at idle and 2,500 rpm.
Cheers,
Don
