I had to get the complete set for the spare tire and when I was putting everything away, I found this just lying around next to the spare wheel. Just wondering if you guys know what it is and what I'm supposed to do with it. Thanks!
2015 XF Sport

 

Its to put your vehicle in neutral (from the engine bay), on the right side under the central cover.

 

Just to clarify, it's normally under a piece of trim directly in front of the centre consul lid. As stated when released it allows the cars gearbox to go into neutral so you can move the car for recovery etc. It's operation is shown in the cars handbook.

 

I found this recently, and both responses above are likely correct... depending on the year.

On my 2013, it is under the trim, between the arm-rest and shifter.

After taking it out of storage, the battery was low and I wanted to put it on a flat deck to go to the dealer... but with no power, there is no shifter. From the response above, I suppose its near the shifter in the cockpit on 2013 ish and in later years, they moved it to the engine bay.

 

I think that is probably the case with the 2015 X250. I did remove that cover on the dash shown in the pictures, but it doesn't go there. I'm trying to find it in the manual but I don't even see it there. I'm one of those blokes that needs to visualize before I go pulling off stuff LOL. Thanks for the tips guys.

My 2015 XF X250 has one of those items in the trunk. The polystyrene insert which is placed on top of the spare wheel and holds the tools has a place for it molded into the top. There is no place for it in the interior of the car. My Owners Handbook neither shows this item nor refers to it and I have no knowledge of how to use it. I would be very much obliged if someone could show us how this device is installed and used.

 

Actually no it won't work in the center console as posted above. That is only for the RWD versions.

Just found out about this and for AWD cars they use the external tool shown in the original post. So IF you have an AWD version make SURE that release tool is in your trunk. If the car breaks down and needs towed you can place the transmission in N. Also don't forget to release the EPB after placing the transmission in N so you can move the car. It takes very little DC power to release the EPB and if the car is completely dead a jump will provide enough power to release the EPB.

BUT this tool connects under the hood!! Yes I could not believe it. I also could not find a single thing in the owners manual.
This is also how it works on the XJ which I have. Here is a video showing both the RWD and AWD transmission park release methods on the XJ. It looks like Jaguar used the same device across the different models too?

Thank you Clubairth1. I have been very lax in that I knew that this device was in the trunk but I did not know how to use it. There is nothing in my handbook about it. As soon as I have the opportunity I will test it to ensure that it works as stated.

We sure could use a picture under the hood of what it attaches to? Anyone got one?
The video is of a RWD car so it does not have the same setup. I kinda understand what it should look like but did Jaguar bury or hide it somehow under hood?

Here is a photograph of the connection to the system. It is on the left hand side of the engine and can be accessed by removing the engine cover. There is a small cover over the end of the cable to keep it clean and that cover is retained by a red tape so that you don't loose it.
