Battery not charging and unidentified cable.
Update: My local independent mechanic found that oil that had been leaking from the valve covers got in to the alternator, causing the intermittent fault. Next step is going to cost $1,200 to replace the alternator. The worst part of this story is that I finally tired of wiping oil off my garage floor and had the valve cover gaskets replaced just last week for $2,000. If I had asked the mechanic to check the "battery not charging" warning before replacing the gaskets I could have saved quite a few hours of labor. My bad for ignoring the warning light for too long.
Hey don't feel bad you can only fix what you know about. The alternator failure was bad luck for sure.

Fix the cam cover oil leaks or else risk an additional alternator replacement.
