Be nice if someone could post a better DIY than what is in that video. They skip all the hard steps.

Are you talking to me ? Nope, I don't work for Jaguar and not sure how you might have worked that out...and my point was entirely that although an issue might indeed be "out of warranty" that's not an excuse for "we've never heard of it so it's not a real issue". But then maybe if I was running a car company I would consider that good PR and the small tweak on the bottom line was in the best interest of the customer.

I saw a suggestion that a local vehicle upholstery shop could fix it for $100- $200 . The one I went to would not even touch the job. I did get some useful ideas on a fix it, but certainly the Jaguar repair at $4000 with them paying $2000 is not appealing . I bought this particular car for just over $20,000 the $4000 is 20% of the purchase price. Jaguar profits are at an all time high charging $2000 in labour for the job is outrageous . My other two Jaguars are under warrant , the XF has had some expensive repairs including a new supercharger. I conclude the brand is not for me and will sell my cars and move back to Mercedes.

Maybe I'm just grumpy this morning, but are you telling me that used Mercedes don't have any expensive repair problems as they age and everything always works as new for as long as you want it to?

I'm not so much being a Jaguar apologist with that question, but a realist when it comes to used European cars. They all have issues, just different issues...

This is exactly the problem I have when someone asks "should I buy a used XFR if I worry about repair bills". Your Jaguar probably had an original selling price of around $80K which means the percentage is 5%. Buying it for the price of a Honda doesn't mean the repairs scale down the same way. Sorry but that's a fact of life for all the higher end Germans too, like Audi, Merc and BMW. If you don't go into a purchase of any of these used high performance saloons with that in mind, you're going to have a bad time and end up blaming the marque.

And no, I still don't work for Jaguar ;-)

You will likely have to shop around. The first shop I contacted said they wouldn't touch it either. Another member on here said he was having the same issue. I pulled my dash out on my own in about an hour using the youtube video in this thread and then stumbling through the remaining fasteners they didn't show in the video. It is very straight forward for anyone that has a tiny bit of mechanic ability. I'd bet the upholstery shops aren't going to want to pull the dash because they think it will be a massive pain in the ***. I took a picture of every single bolt as I removed them. I ran through the pictures backwards when I re-installed so I wouldn't miss anything.

After getting turned down by the first shop I pulled the leather off on my own and I was going to buy glue to re-apply it but I wasn't sure what glue to use. I called another shop and they said they'd do it. I dropped it off and picked it up the next day. It was about $150. For me all they had to do was apply glue and carefully line up the leather.

well its been said...its an $80,000 car..expecting to pay repair costs associated with a car that retailed for $20,000 is a bit ridicules...go buy a $5000 car and see it the repair costs arnt up to 50% of the cars used purchase price : )

Can you post a link to your pics? That would be a huge help for everyone doing this job, and there will only be more and more people with this issue in the coming years.

If you want to make it easy, you can upload the pics to my dropbox so you don't have to do a lot of work posting up individual pics, and I can share the pics with the forum.

Just click on this dropbox link and select the files to upload. This works from phones too.

Thumbs down Bulge in Dashboard fixed

Jaguar offer me 50% of repair cost of the dashboard $1915 . Took it to a local repair shop who stuck it back down with good quality glue and put some staples in it something jaguar should have done at the factory .

I have a 2010 XFR with 45,000 miles that is sitting in a garage most of the time and I live in NY, not exactly Florida. The dealer quoted me $4,036 for the part. A shocker, however I will have to find a solution to fix it if I ever want to sell this car. Jaguar should charge you a reasonable cost for replacement as it is obviously a quality issue. I had the same issue on a Porsche 928 S in the early eighties. It is the 21st century, no car should have this issue.

Wow, that sounds like a real rip-off price for the part. I don't think any of them are over $2200 on the normal parts websites.

Actually the $4036 quote is including install, so if the part is $2100 to $2600 as seen on some web sites, they charge a little less than $2,000 for installation; quite a chunk of money for a 5 hours job as seen on youtube

Yea for someone that's done it a couple of times, they can probably do the whole thing in 2 hours. So that's about $1000/hr.

Default Bad design!

Poor design of the dashboard is the only explanation for the bulging issues on so many past XF models. Newer models staple the leather to the dashboard frame. It's too a shame Jaguar doesn't accept the blame for such issues. I will never buy another Jag!
