Default Buyer's Remorse

Right now I'm feeling pretty depressed that I spent a whole lotta money on a car I really didn't need. I traded in a 2005 SLK 55 AMG and 62 grand for this XFR.

I have a serious case of buyer's remorse that I did the wrong thing. And, yes, I may want some cheese with this whine.

What say?

I too had buyers remorse, I had traded in a 05 Chrysler 300C with the 5.7L Hemi, car was paid off, I had NO payments!, car was mechanically perfect with flawless interior and near flawless exterior. I gave them that car and 11K for 400.00 month payments for 5 years at less than 1% APR...for my 07 XK 2 years newer and only 16K on the odometer, yet when I got home I was like what the $#@% did I just do???

I wouldn't change it now if I could, I have moved up, and who knows maybe in a few years I might move up again to an XKR, but I'm happy, no regrets!!!

I've driven an XF, enjoy the XFR, it's a helluva car!

That is devastating depreciation on the AMG. What's wrong with that car?

The XFR is actually a much better car, quick with much better handling and a far superior ride. The AMG is typical German, oversteer everywhere and if you switch off the traction control there is a clause in your life insurance which invalidates your insurance. It is called the "no suicide" clause but secretly it is actually the "no AMG" clause!

This is actually a upgrage not a downgrade , SLK is no match for XFR .If you owned E Class and traded in for XFR we could talk a different way but still XFR is a better choice and more practical car than SLK . I like present gen E Class though lol

It is my understanding that most, if not all, people who make a large purchase like this experience some kind of buyers remorse. Sometimes it comes within a few days and sometimes it takes a few months of payments to set in.

So, as your Psychologist I advise you to drive the s**t out of that Jag and enjoy.

Thanks for those words of wisdom Vector... I felt horrible after two days of bringing my XF S/C home... to the point of thinking I should get another job to "replace" the money spent... lol

After driving the sh*t out of my car a few times and almost a month passing I do feel better and have begun looking for mods

Thanks for the votes of confidence. Like Cigar Guy, I had no payments on the SLK. It was a fine car but out of warranty at 90,000 miles. It's not that I can't afford the car; it's just that I don't know if I should be spending that kind of money in these economic times. Second guessing my decision, that's all.

If u had 62K, plus a good trade-in, you should've waited and got the 2012 XFR.

Yeah, I thought of that but I also got 0% financing for 5 years! I don't think I would have gotten that on the 2012. Plus, they told me (lied to me??) that the new cars wouldn't be out until November.

I keep my cars a fairly long time so by the time I get rid of it, one model year isn't going to make a big difference in value.

The SLK55 AMG is a great car and an absolute bargain for what it is. I wouldn't want to own one out of warranty though, which is why values have crashed, I guess - lots of them are out of warranty now. So you have paid 62 grand for peace of mind and a bit more performance and space! Hmm, 62 grand buys a lot of engine rebuilds... I see your point.

Its only money, you can always go earn more.

With 62K down, and a trade-in, I wouldn't worry much about financing since the car would be pretty much paid for. And even so, 62K down should get u a great rate regardless.

I reckon that unless that kind of money is in someone's category of spare change, we would all feel some sort of 'remorse' for a while, as the reality sets in.

Hopefully, you will pass through it.

Post up some pics', we'll give you a hand to get there.

My wife and I went through the same thing. We had an '08 MDX, fully paid for. With our warranty about to come up and our son a bit older, we elected to go the XFR route. We were killing ourselves over the decision.

As luck would have it, as the salesman left us to stew for a bit at the dealership before we signed the paperwork, we saw a poster on the wall there. It said something to the effect of,

"Do something impulsive. You'll thank us for it."

Damn right! It turned driving from a chore to an adventure. No regrets after only a few months of ownership. Best advice I ever took.

I traded in my paid foe MB for a XF and beat myself up for a week. Carwise however it was the best decision I ever made. I have had more fun and more complements on this car than you could ever believe!

I had the same exact trade numbers when I traded in my super clean and fast 2006 300C SRT8. Took me about 6 months to realize I am driving a super car now. My SRT8 was a beast and one of the best cars I ever owned. My Jag has some gremlins already but the overall refinement and looks of the car in and out makes me realize I did the right thing. Re-post in 2 months and let us know how u feel...............
