Buying Out of State / Site Unseen
Never bought a car sight unseen before, but I found a 2012 XF in the color combo I want and CPO from a dealer about 2,000 miles away. Aside from the$1k it will cost to transport the vehicle, am I crazy to buy a used, albeit CPO, from a dealer across the country?
I did it with my car, but I had them send tons of pictures and got the background story on the prior owner / ownership history. It was by far the most flawless XFR for sale in the country and it was worth the extra effort (including shipping my car to them in Wisconsin for the trade-in)
I bought my 2012 XFR sight unseen from Florida. Had an independent inspection done and never looked back. No issues. Did the same with two other luxury cars. Particularly have an auto body expert look it over for any body work. I found a local guy in the area of my car by using google. You can also check out the following sites:

I did yes, but not seeing it now when browsing on my cell phone
Trending Topics
The Second one was over the internet and phone with Jaguar Plano,TX..Drove down to get it after the deal was made over the phone..sight unseen..
In fact my 2011 Lincoln MkS from a dealer in Salina, KS...2006 Hummer I bought the same way from a dealer In Little Rock Arkansas, and most recently my 2015 GMC Denali from a dealer in Joplin, MO, and they delivered it free to my driveway... all, after the deal was made over the phone..sight unseen..
Obviously I have done this a few times..So the big advice I can give is; Don't let them DRIVE it to you, have it trailered to you, preferably in an enclosed trailer...Can be done, it's all in the art of the deal.

As for the subject matter, I bought a 550i somewhat locally - agreed to purchase it as long as it met the expectations the owner had given me. He was selling it for a steal and as such didn't feel like he had to put effort into it. Totally worth it, so I met him to pick it up. It was my favorite car I'd ever owned.
A friend with an M5 wasn't so lucky. He bought it from a guy, paid ~ $3k to ship it, and it's spent more time in the shop than on the road. If he had flown out to sign the deal or drive it back, he may have aborted the whole thing.
If it's cheap and compelling enough to risk, it's cheap and compelling enough to justify a ticket so you can at least know what you're getting into.
I didn't lock this thread, one of the other mods must have or there is a bug in the forum, the latter seems likely given the thread is displaying all sorts of garbage on the screen (poor formatting, big wall of text at the top.
We'll check it out, bear with us folks...

I bought my XFR 9 months ago sight unseen from a private seller 1,200 miles away.
But before I did so I got a fellow forum member on a different forum to test drive it, give it a good going over and quiz the seller, then report back to me. He gave it a glowing report, as new condition other than for tyre and brake wear. I then emailed and phoned the seller a few times before I sealed the deal. And I had it trucked over to me. I haven't regretted this purchase for one second.

I got my XKR 2 years ago sight unseen. But it was coming from the Jag dealer who had sold the car to the one owner, and serviced it. I had written assurances that it hadn't been pranged, and it had about 4 months left on the warranty and I could buy a new warranty for 2 years which was Jag approved.
It was an extremely satisfying experience to see it for the first time when the truck rolled up, just awesome. No dramas at all, though the dealer didn't detail it and it had quite a bit of crap embedded in the paint which came out when I clayed it.

Sounds similar to the car I'm looking at. Previous owner bought it new and all service was performed on time and at this same dealer. Previous owner backed into a mailbox and the dealer replaced the bumper and even ran a frame alignment check for me to ensure there was no damage other than cosmetic. Still has 4 months left on original warranty, but it is CPO so it effectively has 28 months remaining (or 80k more miles since it only has 20k on the clock).
