RE: Dealer reprogram needed?
In another post, I mentioned that I tried to let Autozone use their OBDII scanner to read my car...with the same result - no communication error.
Since then, I got the AutoEnginuity scanner w/ the Jag expansion pack (basically a unlock code to the same program) and it reads the DTCs just fine, even if I choose only the basic OBDII setting. A different scanner may work, so if you haven't tried another one, I would give that a shot.

No check engine light.
Air bag light always on.
Car runs great... purrs like a kitten.
Cold mornings it squeals like a fan belt until warm then no noises.
Basically long canking times and multiple attemts to start it... mainly cold mornings and some days.
It does start every time but embarrassingwhen parked in front of the store and people stare.
Classy ride,jalopy starts.

I would look at the throttle plate, make sue it is clean, no carbon. Also check part load breather is clear, not blocked.
If you are more mechanically inclined, you may want to do compression test. Your motor is nicasil lined. Possible the nicasil worn off and you have cylinder wash. If this is the case, you will just have to live with it.
When you are doing compression test look at plugs. They run best on champions. Other plugs seem to cause problems.
The breather and throttle are cheapest and easiest to check.

Part load breather clear. Throttle plate clean. New plugs installed recently. I guess I'll do a compression test and see. All the basics have been done, I think I just might have to live with it.
It doesn't mean it'll crap out on me does it, it just meansi'll have to crank it a few more times than normal to start, right.
Oh well, thanks for trying to resolve my issue. I got the car pretty cheap anyway and it is a Jag conv.

How muchfor new eng orbore and sleeve, anyway? possible?

Forgot to mention, there is a check valve in the fuel pump. Not serviceable seperately. If this is stuck open, fuel is draining back to tank due to your car having a return system.
You can hook up a fuel pressure gauge and run the car, then switch it off and see if pressure bleeds off.
Also, if you dont want to change the pump, you maybe able to put some sort of check valve in line in the system, but I advise against it.

The tps settings are precalibrated. You cannot enter things into the ECM.
Fuel pressure should be around 45psi. Without turning engine on, just hook up pressure gauge and see what it reads. Then prime it by turning key on until it is at max pressure. Leave overnight. See what the pressure is.
Next is to run it with gauge hooked up, get to operating temp and shut it off. Again leave it and see what it reads in the morning.
If you gauge has a valve on it, the can be used to see if injectors are leaking or pump isdraining.
