Default CEL - 2 1/2 hours from dealer

Hello all! My 2009 XF/SC recently had the CEL come on. I'm 2 1/2 hours from the nearest dealer. With prior vehicles I've been able to have the codes pulled at local parts stores. Does anyone know if the same can be done with the Jag? Thanks in advance.

Any good OBD II reader should be able to pull the codes. So the parts store should be able to help you.

You should check and ensure your gas cap is tight first. This is the most common reason for CEL. If you don't clear it with a reader, it should go away after several start cycles after it's properly tightened.

If not that, then you will need to pull codes and figure it out. Good luck.

yes as long as the codes are obdII generic and not Jaguar specific. Jaguar also uses 6 digit codes now and not just 4. But hmmmm09 XF sc. I would guess and say p0171, p0174(lean engine, vacuum leak back of the air inlet elbow under throttle body, or possibly p0128, thermostat failure for coolant temp below threashold.
You know maybe 1 day jaguar will go GM's route and be able to see what codes are stored with ON STAR and tell you if you need to come in now or can schedule for a few weeks down the road.......hey just remember I said it first

You nailed it with the coolant temp below threshold. So I'm guessing the next step is to replace the thermostat? I've changed thermostats before, but never on a Jag. Anything particularly unique about changing the thermostat in my 09 XFS? If not, I'll probably tackle it myself and save the time and trouble of taking to the dealer (2 1/2 hours away).

Thanks again for the help.
