I'm in discussions with an out state dealer on a 2011 XF Premium. He says the factory warranty expires in approximately 7 months/14k miles.

I told him I was only interested in a used XF that was CPO with a warranty extension. After a bit of back and forth, he came back and said the dealer would "certify" the car at no cost to me if we can get the deal done in the next week or two.

This obviously sounds attractive, but I'm a little skeptical that they're willing to throw in something I'm estimating to be worth a couple thousand dollars.

How can I get assurance that their version of "certifying" is what I'd be getting if I were to buy a CPO off the lot? I'm guessing the certification process would also ensure that the tires and brakes were replaced if worn beyond tolerance.

Lastly, my understanding is that 2011 XF CPOs qualify for Jaguar financing of 0.9% and I would want to take advantage of this too.

Thanks!

You should just ask if that's the Jag Approved Certified PreOwned process? And check you are getting a total of 6yrs /100k miles coverage. The 2011 Jags in the USA had a longer 5 year / 50k mile warranty anyway so the CPO warranty is only buying you one additional year - so prob costs around 1000 US dollars

CPO does apply tolerances for brakes, tyres etc but not very stringent eg 4mm for tyres and I think 6mm for pads so they can still be well warn. Ask for the specific measurements

Thanks for the insight. The fact that CPO will only effectively buy me one additional year of coverage is not ideal.

Are the options to extend for an additional 6 years/100k essentially providing the same coverage as the CPO program? Is it reasonable to expect to pay around $3k for the 6 year extension?

Yes, I negotiated in a 6 year / 100k mile Jaguar Vehicle Protection Plan that started from date of delivery when I bought my car. It was $2150. You can definitely negotiate this if they really want to move a car.

I believe the 6-yr coverage is similar or maybe even same as the CPO. That's a great deal
Note that it's not as good as the factory warranty though and a fair number of items and pretty much all trim are excluded as wear and tear
