Took my car to dealer for some other things. I noticed that the pull-up door to the console (the one where the USB port is) opens w/out pressing (or pulling up) on the button.

Dealer told me this was "normal". Sounds kind of strange to me. Why would you put a button that moves a lever w/ a hook on it if it doesn't do anything!

I had a couple of other "normal" things that I'll post about later... i think the dealer just didn't want to fix anything.

Does anyone elses console door just open w/out using the button?

 

Just tried for you and no, it latches when closed. The lever is spring loaded. Not sure I would notice if it didn't latch. Mine is a 10.

 

Mine latches like it should. You're right it's obvious it should latch shut.

 

I have a 2009 XF and the center console LOCKS!
