I just picked up my new-to-me 2016 Jaguar XF S 3.0 V6 supercharged about a month ago. It was great for awhile but now I’m seeing an apparent coolant leak, I’ve located the area but need help identifying what parts I need to replace.
1) Do not drive the car until repaired. These engines are prone to catastrophically overheat.
2) Are you a VERY good mechanic? If not, I recommend finding a good JLR independent. They'll have done this every other week.
3) Can't tell by the picture but the usual suspects are the overflow tube, the thermostat/pipe and the water pump which can be done without removing the super charger. The oil cooler pipe, oil cooler gasket and the Y pipe behind the water pump require removing the super charger.
4) The heater manifold pipe at the back of the motor is also a failure point.
5) There are aftermarket upgrade parts available from URO but they don't give you all the gaskets you need. Ask me how I know.
6) It is very important to properly bleed air from the system after the work is done.
Thank you for the reply, I have a scheduled appointment at my JLR dealer later this week, I’ll for sure update on the problem/fixes needed.
I do know from the vehicle mechanical assessment prior to purchase the water pump was recently replaced, as long as there’s coolant engine also doesn’t overheat & thermostat works properly, so I’m thinking it’s some of the hoses but will update on that!
Got the leak diagnosed, turns out the thermostat housing is leaking. I ordered the part myself to save on the cost & should be all fixed up later this week!
I would recommend hose clamp pliers, they will come in very handy with the factory spring type clamps. Just did this job myself.
You have a X260 but on the X250 you remove the driver side airbox, snorkel and intake tube. I see a lot of people remove the snorkel incorrectly, don't touch the zip ties, pull the upper airbox and filter off and it unclips on the airbox side.
