Default driver seat heat / lumbar not working

2010 xf supercharged.
car is new to me and still finding out about the various functions and ironing out any issues.
the driver's seat seems to do the cooling function (most of the time), but not the heat function. also the lumbar adjustment switch on driver seat doesn't seem to do anything.. all other power functions of the drivers seat seem to be fine. passenger seat seems fine for its power functions as well as heat / cool that are activated via touch screen.

also of note:
-memory seat positions on driver door switch work fine.
-all touch screen operation for both seats seems to work fine - it's just what appears to be an activated driver seat heat mode doesn't produce any heat - even after an hour drive..
- heated steering wheel works great

any advice? similar problems?
on other threads, it seems a seat control module is mentioned. is this swappable between driver / passenger side so as to troubleshoot the driver's side?

You need to pull the back of the seat part and fix the ducting for the heater/cooler. It turns brittle and falls apart so the hot/cold air never gets where it's supposed to go.

It took me a while to find this but here is the thread talking about it with pictures for removal:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-151676/

If the ducting isn't falling apart there was another thread or two about people having issue with pins in the connectors under the seat which had pushed out and had to be fixed.

I've also had a failed peltier module, requiring replacement of the entire unit - but the ducting repair is a cheaper first step to try.

I'm not sure whether the blower is meant to do anything in heated mode. On mine the blower does the cool air, but heated seems to be conduction rather than airflow. Not certain but that's the impression I get

Yes, britCars. I have a 2009 that doesn't have cooled seats, so no air duct. But I do have the heated seats and I think your right about the heat being conductive.

The blowers definitely run with heat too as the heat is generated by peltier units - the non-ventilated seats heat the seats heated in a different way, using heat pads.

I've attached info about how the ventilated seats work.

Very helpful. And great attachment. What's that from - is that the shop service manual or is there some other publication that describes in more detail how the car operates. It's very interesting

Thanks!

Hi I just picked my xfr 2010 today. I must admit my first impression is that the lumber support just goes in and out. Does not seem to move up or down.

Where do the sat nav dvds go? Tried in car cd player but no joy. Then i found a dvd player in boot? Is this for all 3 sat nav discs? Sorry to hyjack thread. Love the car. Hope u enjoy yours? What colour is it?

Yep, the lumbar only goes in or out, it's just a pump up balloon.
The satnav runs off a DVD in the boot, I'm fairly sure you can only put one at a time in it, you just select the appropriate one for your region and swap it for another if need be. I'm not 100% sure about this coz my XFR only has one DVD which covers all of Oz & NZ.

Yes / that's right. Put in the DVD for the area you're in. It has base coverage for the whole region then each disc has much fuller detail for an area within it. E.g. USA is on two DVDs (east and west)

Enjoy the new car

hi all. the lumbar seems to have a 4 way switch and the pump for it in the seat back seems to make noise in 3 of those 4 quadrants. BUT.. it doesn't seem to inflate anything. i removed the driver's seat back, and can see the various parts, but other than a clear complete break in the accordion hose for the seat back heat / ventilation fan, i don't see any obvious issues. i did duct tape the ducting - best i can do for right now.
can anyone advise how their lumbar works in the 4 positions?

It's from some dealer training docs, which seem to go into a lot more detail than the service manual for some things. I forget where I stumbled across them now.

If I get a chance I'll try and upload them all.
