Default Driver side interior door handle not working

Hi all!

CAR: Jaguar XF 2008.

My driver side interior door handle doesn't open the door from the inside. The exterior door handle works i.e. I can hold the fob outside through the window and open the outside door handle whilst sat in the driver seat. I've taken the door panel off and the cable looks to be in place though it pops out rather easily. Is there something missing that is meant to hold it in place where the white section is?

Does anyone know what the fix could be? The only thing I can think of is it's the other side of where the cable goes, which I didn't have time to check...

Thanks for your help in advance....!

It's mechanical via the cable, so check the other end of the cable!

Thanks, will do. Just out of interest, where does the other side of the cable ends up? In the door latch?

Can you open the door by pulling on the cable itself?

That's a good question. I didn't have time try that so will check when I remove the panel again. There was definitely tension there when I had it in place and when I pulled the interior handle. However, I thought I'd be able to see a catch in the door lock moving but nothing did.

Your already there? Disconnect the cable from the door panel. Now pull and work the cable a few times. Does it properly open the door?

Hi @clubairth1 and @John Williams

Thanks for your previous replies. I'd been too busy so didn't get to try. Unfortunately when it came to me checking what you mentioned, the outside door handle also stopped working so the door couldn't open at all, meaning I couldn't get the trim off. I knew the issue was connected to the cables because neither handle had any tension. I've had to take it into a Jaguar specialist independent garage for them to fix and it turns out both internal and external handle cables have broken. They're replacing them and a couple of other plastic bits (tbc) but it's cost me a daft amount. I wish I could have got the trim off because I could have replaced the cables myself.

Regards....

I wouldn't take it to that Jaguar Independent garage again. Far too expensive. I reckon the main dealer would have done it for less.
