Engine Knock on Startup? (Video)
Sometimes when I start my XF I hear a knocking noise. I just hear 1 knock as if some metal is hitting and then the engine starts. It usually happens during crank and usually it happens when the engine starts quickly as opposed to longer cranking of the engine with the starter.
Luckily when I was recording my exhaust (as I have never heard what it sounds like from the back) I heard the knock noise. I got it on video and although it is hard to hear you can still hear it at the 0:08-0:09 mark after the engine has started with its rev blip.
Usually when I try to reproduce the problem by turning the engine off then on again the noise doesn't occur. Maybe it is only possible during a cold engine start.
Also do keep in mind this is a replacement engine I got recently in which the jaguar service did not tell me anything about how to break it in. Maybe I need to change the oil since its a new engine and possible metal alloy pieces collected in the fluid?

Starter motor maybe loose..I've seen/heard something like this before after an engine replacement...the mounting bolts were overlooked and never tightened down during final re-assembly.
But I've said it before; I'm sorry to say but this dealership you're using, seems like idiots with the way they keep you coming back with issues.

Jaguar no longer specifies any running in time or requirements for a new engine. The first oil change required is at the same interval as for every oil change 1 yr or 24,000 km (I'm pretty sure the new 5.0 is 24,000 and not the 16,000 km applicable to the 4.2).
Nevertheless, it is good practice to treat a new engine with respect for the first 1,500 km or so. Three tanks of gas is long enough to ease a new engine into service. Then you should really demand full engine performance for the next three tanks at least in order to finish the break in properly. Mind you, I drive it that way all the time after break in, I can't help myself.
If you are concerned about noises take it back to the mechanic who installed the new engine, he wants to fix it.

It looks like you have several threads going about the post-motor swap problems. It might be helpful to consolidate them into the original thread. Sorry you are having these issues but keep on the shop to make everything right. And after you are finished I would start searching for a new shop to be honest. It doesn't sound like these guys are on their A-game

Anyways the problem about this issue is that it doesn't happen all the time. I cannot recreate the issue and thus when I tell those premium brand service reps or service manager my issue they will be like there's nothing we can do now if you cannot show us it (which I can understand...I guess).
I hate going back to these guys because of the poor service they give to me and they probably already see me leaving them as I complain to them all the time about their f-ups.
Yeah man doing poor unfinished work, telling you they don't want you on the forums and damaging your car and leaving food in it? You are being way cooler about the situation than I would....I would blow them up in person, online and to JLR north America so hard that nobody would want to service their car there again.

Here is another video I shot today. I started it up on an incline engine fairly warm. The sound happened during engine crank this time. After startup you can notice the car shaking. What do you think? Note: you may hear 2 sounds...the one after is releasing the push button start.
