I was told by Escort that the up dates are needed for the computer part of the unit. The updates include information on new traffic light camera locations as well as speed traps that are set up by locals. The updates also include info on new sat locations which helps the unit learn where false signal location maybe located ie (Malls, Supermarkets, Radio towers etc.)

As for being undetectable to detectors, I don't know. I think it's supposed to be invisible to such things but I have no way of knowing. I suspect that's only useful in places where detectors are illegal, but if I lived in one of those places, I'd probably not get a built-in detector so as not to risk having the car confiscated.
As for being undetectable, This was only a discussion on their forum. Its was suppost to be one of the big selling points with the 9500 series over the 8500 series that I traded in.

Sorry, I totally missed this request and haven't visited this board in a long while. The work was done by Cartronics in San Rafael. Ask for Marty. They do great work on lots of high end cars. Yes, I highly recommend them. They've now worked on three cars for me and done an excellent job each time. I'm sure by now mtravis has had his installation done, but am posting this for reference by others.
