Default Finally an XF owner! Well, I take delivery on Thursday

Came very close to buying a '10 XF supercharged a few weeks ago from a dealer out of state. It turned out that the vehicle had major paint/body work (even though I was told that there was no body work) and I pulled the plug on the deal.

Well, I decided to work with a local dealer and they found me a 2010 XF Vapor Gray/Beige Portfolio with 8,000 miles.

I had a local body shop inspect the vehicle and I was told the front bumper cover was painted but couldn't find any other issues with the body. I am not happy about the bumper especially with only 8k miles, but I'll deal with it as I believe the price is very fair.

I can get it for $35,200 or $37k with it being certified. I will more than likely take the certification for peace of mind. I also negotiated that the dealer install aftermarket Mina performance exhaust that I will purchase.

I really wanted a supercharged model (my other car is a 09 CTS-V with close to 700 to the wheels), but it's not easy finding my favorite color combo (vapor/tan).

I am sure I'll be quite pleased with 385HP at least for a while!!

Cheers!
Chuck

I'm not overly impressed with the certified warranty so don't let that push you one way or the other. Only critical components are covered and you better be damn sure it's a covered critical component that is failing or you'll be paying for diagnosis and the non covered part. Just be careful when you bring it in. The normal warranty is much different than the certified warranty.

That being said, the $1800 for the certification is still better than nothing.

470 vs. 385. I am sure with a few minor mods and a tune I could get it to 400-420 easily. If I could find a vapor/tan SC I'd be all over it. It's a very difficult combo to find. I have more than enough power with my V. The XF will be more or less my winter car.
Cheers!

If it were me I'd find a way to get the (470hp) supercharged version vs. the (385hp) NA version. That's just me though. It sounds like you are a performance guy so don't let color stop you.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought (and was told) that the certification extends the factory warranty to 100k miles or 6 years?? It's transferable as well which is a good thing for resale or trade in value.

The factory warranty ends like normal. After that point you have the certified warranty. it isn't a factory warranty. It only covers critical components. Make sure you talk to the dealer about it. Ask them exactly what they cover.

Thanks for the info. I actually have the select certified booklet that I received from the dealer for the car that I was going to buy. I've reviewed it and it doesn't specifically state what is covered but rather was is not covered. It appears that the major components are covered which is ok with me as these are the expensive items. I looked into an extended warranty but the least expensive one was $3200. The main thing for me is it's a Jaguar warranty, not a third party. I have been screwed over by a few warranty companies in the past (EasyCare was one of them).
P.S. By the way how do you like your Mina exhaust? I am going to order it for the XF. I like the dual tips on each side.
Update - The dealer told me that they will not install the Mina exhaust as it could void the warranty????!!!!!!!! I can't win. I have $20k worth of mods on my V and the dealer still works with me regarding warranty work. Of course if my trans fails due to 900HP going through it I understand the trans won't be covered.

I've been burned in the past with a car that had a "extended warranty". They usually have a list of components that are covered and most have a deductible.

I love the Mina Exhaust. In my experience it's relatively quiet compared to the normal aftermarket exhaust you'd put on any car. I think it fits the car well. It's quiet when in the low RPM range. When you floor it the sound is great but it's not loud enough to draw too much attention. You don't even need to jack up the car up to do the work. If you know how to work on cars you can install the exhaust in about 15 minutes. I did have to bend a bracket out of the way which was contacting the mufflers on each side so keep that in mind.

Search around for exhaust clips. There are quite a few on the forum.

Post some pictures when you get the car. I just picked up a 2011 Stratus Grey Premium a couple weeks ago. I got my Mina exhaust mounted and it is a huge improvement over stock for us guys who like to hear our V8's It also looks better than stock. I had a bit of fitment issue on the right side, but it was corrected by just bending the hanger a bit. I plan to post a couple YouTube videos to demonstrate how it sounds.

Thanks! With the exception of putting on a Mina exhaust I am keeping the car stock (for now). I went through hell and back 25 times with modifying my CTS-V. Everybody I trusted (builder, tuner, etc.) with the car turned out to be a jackass. Especially the tuner who pushed my motor with 5k miles and lifted the heads!!

I took delivery of the car a few days ago. While I like it a lot I don't know how long I will be ok with 385HP! I will take some pics today and post them later. I'd love to see pics of your exhaust and a youtube clip would be better yet!!
Cheers!

What's up Chuck?...

Glad you finally got your Jag..I was getting tired of reading about the infamous CTS..

385 HP is nothing to sneeze at and most practical owners find that kind of horse power awesome enough without messing around with the car's ECU or whatever..I'd leave well enough alone and enjoy it for what it's about..If this is too low of HP, you should've got a SC'd version in stead.

Good luck

I had a 2006 XKR Victory, I just traded it for a 2009 XF - supercharged. I love it and it is certified and that covered a few issues. I'm probable going back to a XKR in the near future but loving it. I drove the new XJ and. OMG
