Default Flickering overhead light in 2011 XF

I just picked up a 2011 XF Premium through the Certified Program. All seems to be in great shape except the right side overhead light flickers on and off at random and sometimes cannot be turned off for 5-10 seconds. Is this an easy fix or do I just need to get it to the dealership? I'm absolutely brand new on this forum, so please let me know if I'm posting properly, as well.

Thanks for any advice on this!

Easiest fix is to replace the globes with LEDs. Might as well replace both sides at once, and the central one as well. I've replaced all the interior globes in mine with 'bright white' SMD LEDs, much better lighting IMHO than the stock yellow globes. The front light console is dead easy to remove, just poke a small flat blade scewdriver between the console and the headlining, on the side of the console about 2" from the rear edge, and gently lever the console down. Then repeat on the other side. Maybe use a cloth on the end of the screwdriver to prevent scratching the console. The console now pulls clear of the headlining, just disconnect the wiring plug and it comes right out. All three light globes sit in bulb holders, turn them about 60 degrees and they pop out. Then remove the bulb and replace with an SMT LED globe (T10 5W). If the new globe doesn't work first time, pull it out, turn it 180 degrees, and refit.
SMT multi LEDs in T10 5W are cheap as chips, I get them over eBay for less than $1 each.

I think what you are experiencing is that the lights randomly illuminate?

My XFR did that - there is a tsb for this relative to the connections internal the to switch. Particularly distracting @ night.

I told the dealer it was a problem and he indicated there was a revised part for this center overhead lights. He replaced the overhead under warranty and I haven't had a problem since.

The LED is a great idea too...

Yes, the problem is that the light randomly comes on. Sounds like it's best to have the dealer fix it. I love the idea of the LEDs, though, and will definitely make that switch. Also, I apologize for my ignorance, but what is a tsb?

Thanks for the help!

Caleb

My 2013 has the same issue and the dealer said they couldn't duplicate it... time to take it back again.

Mine only does it after it's been parked in the hot sun during the Houston summers, which is not very often. I would be interested in the TSB in case I can do it myself. My dealer is the kind that is more than capable of breaking more than they fix, and having them in my leather interior with sharp tools makes me nervous. They also have a habit of not mentioning the damage they do during repairs, but they don't deny it when I notice them.

Does anyone know the TSB? I have AllDataDIY.
