Fuel Tank Replacement 12 XF
After repeated issues of not being able to dispense fuel into my XF (pumps would constantly shut off taking 10-15 min to fuel) brought it for servicing..Was advised they need to replace the gas tank...They actually have a tank in stock and will perform the work tomorrow. ..
Is this a common issue? Seems unusual.

I have that problem on my white 2011 XF. But it's not an issue on my gray 2011 XF.
Mine doesn't have the problem at every gas station, but it's a constant problem at my Exxon station that has the best prices. The pumps must be extra sensitive there.
For me, the answer is to hold the pump upside down. It's a bit of a pain, but not a huge one.
It's hard to believe it needs a whole new tank, but dealers seem to get away with replacing everything on these cars under warranty. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a restriction in the filler neck.

I seem to rememeber this is a pretty common issue on the XF although I thought it was resolved on earlier models than the 2012. I believe mine (a 2010) had a replacement gas tank done under warranty for the previous owner back when it was relatively new.
If you search the forum you should find some posts on this from about a year or two ago. It may explain the issue. There was also an actual recall on about 4000 XF related to the fuel tank (a potential leak issue) but they would have already picked that up from your VIN when you were last serviced
I live near Jag headquarters in Mahwah. The BP station gas attendants in the area tell me Jaguar people frequently come with XFs, as recently as last week. It seems they are trying different fixes to the filler problem. I haven't heard anyone talk about replacing the entire tank....

2014 XF has the same fueling issues.
The day after driving it off of the lot, trying to fuel it was more than difficult. Called the dealer, they acted as if it was an unknown problem. Then spoke to someone in service, yep, Jag has a problem and they don't have a fix for it. Try fueling at Chevron or Shell stations. Try turning the nozzle to 2:00, blah, blah, blah.
So, a year later the car is in for it's first service at a different dealer...I moved...and they tell me there is still no fix for the problem and they have taken back a few cars because of the issue.
I call the dealer I bought it from again and told them if there isn't a fix for the problem I will be contacting Jaguar Financial. The dealer calls me back and tells me there is a fix for it that they are replacing the necks on the cars. I said, really, the dealer in Sacramento told me they were advised by Jaguar to stop replacing the necks because it wasn't a fix for the problem. And this came from someone out of the country speaking for Jaguar. I told them they need to look into whether or not there is a fix and if there isn't, I want the car replaced.
But, it's becoming obvious to me that the XF line has this issue in more than just the 2014 addition.
This problem is not only a mere annoyance, but it's a safety issue. Spilling gasoline because you're not sure whether the tank is actually full or if it's just clicking off because that's what it does the entire time you're fueling it. It's a distraction from being able to watch your surroundings as well...you never know who is going to hit you over the head to steal your car or mug you.

This is very interesting because the 2005 S Type had only one recall and it was for the gas tank. Same problems as listed above and the solution was a complete tank replacement.
I would have thought Jaguar would have got that problem figured out by now?

I would rather not get a free tank if the car fixes itself. The less your car is taken apart by the dealer, the better.
