Default How do you do a smoke show with an XFR

I bought my 2010 XFR 2 month ago and the other day I tried to pull a smoke show with no success. I know it can be done, I've seen pictures and videos of others doing it. I have the tranny shifter in S mode, dynamic mode on and the traction control button off. Hold the brake and gas and the car just dies.
To completely turn off the traction control, am I suppose to hold the tc button for 10 seconds?
Thanks ahead time for any help,
Marco

Yes, but I'd make sure there are no cops around when you do this. I pulled away from a stoplight abruptly and the rears let out a very slight chirp (like 1/4 second long) and about a mile later a motorcycle cop pulled me over. I never exceeded the speed limit, but he said it was considered reckless driving to peel out. This makes no sense, but I didn't argue with him.

I think the only thing that saved me was my NY State Trooper card that a friend of mine gave me. When he saw that, he asked who I knew and let me go. Phew.

"Display of Speed" may be the rebellious act committed. Go figure.

Here in Washington (state) reckless driving requires one to operate a vehicle on a public roadway with willfull or wanton disregard for persons or property.

If you have no passengers, there are no cars or other people around, it is very difficult to make a reckless driving charge stick. That does not mean they won't cite you...you may need a lawyer to get off...but it's not a crime to spin your tires in a controlled manner.

if you turn the traction control button completely off (i think it's 15 seconds -- but just keep holding it and you'll see the DSC light change) and you just tap the gas and you'll have all the smoke you want!

I really don't think it's possible.

LOL. Yes. Turn DSC off all the way (10 seconds). S+Dynamic.
Lightly hold the brake (very soft touch!) and mash the pedal. You can actually hold the engine back on the brakes if you're too hard on them. Once the tires break loose the light touch on the brakes will hold the car. You might need to learn in a water box if this is your first time.

Hold the DSC button in until the info center says "DSC OFF"
Dynamic mode on,
Trans in sport
Left paddle trans into first
MAKE SURE YOU POINT THE CAR IN A SAFE DIRECTION...
Mash it hard and hold on!

Thanks A lot guys, I tried it out last night and it works very well. I didn't do a stand still with it yet with the brakes, I just punched it from a dead stop. For the guys that race their XFR at the track do you turn off the DSC completely off for better 60ft if the track hooks? Do you leave the car in S mode and let it shift on its own or do you get better results by shifting it yourself?
Thanks again guys,
Marco

I have yet to run very sticky tires on my XFR, however, my recent runs at the track produced nearly the same 60ft times whether DSC was completely off or in the DSC Trac mode. This is definitely due to the limitations in grip for the tires and the track prep.

That being said, the car is much more consistent in DSC Trac as I never had to worry about throttle modulation. My best launches were done by brake boosting to 1700rpm, transmission in D1 (it will upshift on its own even though you've selected first gear), and rapidly feeding throttle after the initial launch. If you'd like to watch some videos and read a more in depth analysis from the recent track day, please follow this link:

Yep what Patrick Said! Unless you're doing sticky drag tires it's just not worth the risk of getting the car sideways into a wall. This car will break loose on the launch, 1-2 and 2-3 shifts on street tires and with the DSC completely off, that = too many opportunities to get sideways for me.

Thanks again guys. The best I did with my stock S-type R was 13.27@105mph, I can't wait to go try my XFR out.
