Default Interesting 2011 XFR Info.

Hi. Owned the XFR for about a month now and are interested in finding out as much as I can about the car, more the technical side of the car.

Did you know if you hold down the DSC button for 15 seconds the driver has more control.

An informotive article here and they give the XFR a lot of praise.
JAGUAR XFR test drive - Tech Facts - autoevolution

Is it ok to post a link to an article as above?, as I just got banned from the XF UK forum for doing this!! Said if I want technical info. to got to Topix Jaguar and pay for it??

Anyone else got good info converning intercoolers, efans, trans cooler etc.

Holding the DSC button for 15 seconds in any XF (NA, SC, or R) will disable traction control. Tapping the DSC button will allow some tire spin but not a smoky burn out.

BTW the pictures of that XFR in that article look horrible. That engine bay needs some TLC.

Well, actually, the driver can have less control over the car, though more manual input, as doing this will disable the DSC completely. I don't recommend ever doing this for any street driving (the exception perhaps doing donuts in a deserted parking lot). Even on the track, enabling "trac mode" is better (pressing DSC button, but for less than 11 sec.). Doing that raises the thresholds on DSC intervention, but still keeps it there as a safety net. The car is plenty fast in trac mode, and even in that mode, you can still get into trouble! You want a sporty drive on a backroad? Enable trac mode, turn the shift dial to S and keep up with or pull away from most sports cars!

I would also like to reiterate, completely disabling the DSC for street driving is asking for trouble. I attended the R performance academy in LV and even around the tracs they would only allow DSC partially disabled, i.e. in Trac Mode. They commented that a high percentage of accidents with these cars is when the DSC is completely disabled.

My car is a UK import. I'm not sure about the US XFR's but mine backfires a fair bit on de-celeration.

My tuner says he can take care of this on his dyno with the correct software. Can someone tell me what IDS version is needed for these cars. Thanks.

This seems normal for XFRs. I wouldn't worry about it.

Do the cars that have had an aftermarket ECU tune still backfire?

Reason I ask is that I have just had new mufflers and electric valves installed and it is fine in closed (quiet) mode but in open mode the backfiring is a bit much.

I don't have specific info on your question but think that a bit of backfiring and burbling comes with having a more free flowing exhaust. With a stock exhaust there was hardly any, but I got more of it after replacing the mufflers with Quicksilvers. It's mainly on deceleration, especially if you close the throttle quickly. On your car with valving on the mufflers, you are basically simulating what I experienced as between stock and Quicksilver exhausts. I don't know if an ECU tune would make any difference or not as to the backfiring/burbling.

Thanks for that. I will give the guys at ECU Tuning Group a call and see what they have to say.
