Welcome to the forum Maz,

Is it a V6 or a V8?

Different dipstick locations and different shaped handles on them. Whatever happened to 'keep it simple'!

The Engine Oil Dipstick can be either red or yellow with a round or a 'T' shaped handle (Jaguar have been fitting red ones with a 'T' shaped handle for years so this is a change):

1. Withdraw the dipstick and wipe the blade clean with a lint free cloth or paper kitchen towel. Take this opportunity to note positions of the Max and Min marks.

2. Fully re-insert the dipstick and withdraw again to check the oil level. Top up if necessary through filler cap (item 6)

The approximate quantity of oil required to raise the level from Min to Max is 1 litre.

Oil recommendation is 5W-30 engine oil. UK Jaguar dealers use Castrol non-synthetic but any other premium brand equivalent is suitable.

Is it diesel or petrol?
Diesels don't have dipsticks, instead you need to check via the dash display.
Press the trip computer button (the chrome button on the end of the LH stalk) until the oil level display is shown.
It will show either OK, add 1/2 a litre, add 1 litre and so on.
This won't work unless you first do one of two things.
The manual says "warm up engine, turn off, let sit for 10 minutes to allow the oil to settle, then check via the trip computer button".
But an easier way is simply pop the bonnet open, then toggle the trip computer button.
