Default Low milage 09 or high milage 10?

Hello

Buying my first Jag
So far I narrowed my search to two potential cars:

1) '09 4.2L, 42000km milage
nice condition, some scratches, nothing major

2) '10 5.0L 98000km milage
Immaculate condition, like new. Hard to believe that this car has almost 100K on it

Same price. I also getting extended warranty so for next 2-3 years I'll be covered. Both Premium Luxiry.

I really like the fact that '09 has low mileage but also love the way 5.0L engine drives, but my concern is higher milage on '10 car.

Should I be even concerned about 98000km milage or is it perfectly fine?

I myself usually put around 15000km / year

Those mileages are in kilometers. Here is conversion to miles:

1) '09 : 42000km = 26000 miles
2) '10 : 98000km = 60000 miles

I would absolutely take the newer model with the better engine. From your description it sounds like it has mostly highway miles, which are much easier on it than the short trip mileage you probably have on the '09. You stated it looks almost new indicating it has been cared for and probably not used as much in stop-and-go type driving. Presumably the option level is similar, but if one had the B & W audio and the other did not that would be worth considering. I am surprised you can get a newer and much better ('09 early bugs largely gone by '10, and the DI engine is far superior) model without having to pay more. If you ever intend to sell the car in the future you would get more for the newer better one as well.

I would disagree. Resale on high mileage jaguars is terrible. From a close personal friend at a senior level at a dealer, they can't give these cars away with high miles, particularly XKs. If you plan on keeping the car long term, I would take the 2010. Otherwise, if you plan on keeping it less than 4 years or so, go for the lower miles. Of course, this is all moot if you plan on putting a ton of miles on it.

I just was in a similar situation, I was between a 2009 supercharged and a 2010 5.0 na. I went with the 09 SC because it had more options plus it had the spice interior I really like with only 33k miles on it and looked like new w/cpo warr

Both engines are very good. You choice depends on how much would you use the extra power from the larger, 5.0 V8? The 4.2L is plenty enough for most drivers. (I know, I have had both)

As an other poster suggested resale values are rock bottom for higher mileage Jaguars so, if selling the car is in your future plans, that should be taken into account.

For my present personal use I would likely take the lower mileage 4.2L.

What's the price premium of a 'typical' mileage 2010 Premium Luxury vs. the one you are looking at here? Of course caviarjag is right that high miles drive down the price significantly, but that's of course why you are able to find a one-year newer model with the better engine for the same price! So resale value is worse - but your purchase price is also a lot lower than for a low-mileage one.

If it were me I would still strive for the 2010 with the 5.0L engine as I do think it's much better. But I would hold off on a 60k mile vehicle and keep shopping around for something with more moderate miles - maybe not low mileage but at least average.

I would not buy the 2009 because it's the first year for the XF and there were several issues that you could avoid dealing with. The 2012 has way to many miles and no matter what the condition is, I am sure you can find one with lower miles AND in great condition.

Just be patient and keep looking..........Don't rush into a major purchase like this without finding the right car.

Thank you everybody. Looks like there pros and cons in every choice

2010 model with low milage would cost me about $7000-9000 more, which I can not afford.

So I drove them both again and the way '10 drives matches my driving style perfectly.
I am also getting set of brand new tires + navigation update + $2000 discount on 2010 so I decided to go with '10. BTW, it has B&W sound also

Signed papers yesterday. Yohoo !!!!
Happy to join Jaguar family!

Jaguar engines and transmissions easily run to high mileages. If they depreciate rapidly due to high mileages that's an excellent reason to buy one used, great value. 100,000 km is a psychological number and means absolutely nothing. Buy the newer car and pocket the savings. The depreciation has already been experienced by earlier owners.
