It is just a “timer” that is preprogrammed into the computer.

You can reset it by following a few steps of button pushes. Although it is a pain in the *** to get the timing correct.

Do you have to follow the jag maint schedule to maintain warranty? My dealer has these maint packages based on mileage - 32k 48K 60K etc...they are ungodly expensive like 800-1000 bucks a pop.

 

You should maintain it according to the maintenance schedule in your owners manual, but the cost should be half of that. I called one dealer for my first annual service visit and they wanted over $700 so I said no thanks. I ended up taking it to a different dealer who accepted a coupon from my local dealer. They said all filters and everything were still clean so I just needed an oil/filter change. After the coupon it was $100 out the door. They have done all my service since even though it is an extra hour further each way. You just need to find the right place. Some dealers have packages like you found where they want to change every fluid every year.
