Misfire, Misfire, Misfire! Or is it really a Misfire?
Hi Everyone ,
2012 Jaguar XF 5.0 Supercharge with about 90,000 miles.
I’ve been trying to solve a misfire for a year now. I’ve been experiencing misfire on random cylinders putting the car in restricted performance. Over this timeframe I have done the following:
1. Changed all 8 Spark Plugs, Injectors and Coils three times. - thinking each time it might just of been a bad batch.
2. Timing Chain. Thinking this is a Common issue so just got it done.
3. Both High Pressure Fuel Pumps. Thinking not enough fuel pressure to the banks.
4 Fuel Pump that’s located under the rear seat.
5. Change Engine and Transmission Mounts. Thinking it might be too much vibration due to bad mounts.
6. Removed catalytic converters (legal in Bahamas) thinking it might be clogged.
Now my friend and I went back at it again because there is a misfire on Cylinder 4 only. It was the injector which we changed. It ran really good for two 10 minute trips. On my third trip I got the restriction performance AGAIN! I scanned the car and now it’s misfire on cylinder 2! What the hell is doing on? Can someone please shed some light on this because it can’t be the injectors constantly needing to change but the thing is when I change the injectors that shows up bad on the obd scan the car rides like brand new for a few trips then another misfire.
Kindly take a look at the freeze frame of when the cyclinder 2 was detected, is it my battery? , is it the codes that says “faulty” in the photos below…. What possibly can be causing this?
One your injector seals may have failed on installing, even if it was new, make sure all injectors have the correct numbers, just to be sure , it could be fine but I would double check
At this point I’ve installed new injectors over 3 times. And now C4 misfired I replaced that injector- it work fine then C2 is misfiring. Someone told me the stored code I have on the ECM is apart of a recall. I need a SDD software update and Calibration. Does anyone know if anyone is willing to come to bahamas to do this?
Nice - I see I can get this icarsoft v3 from Amazon. Will the V3 come with the software I need to update and clear permanent stored codes? Because I have a permanent code stored on the ECM which is associated with the recall. (See link)
I’m almost quite certain it’s not the injectors. I’ve been constantly attacking them as my main concern all this time. Because what would happen is I’ll replace that injector which is misfiring - it’ll drive good for two or five trips then misfire on another cylinder.
It will come with a usb cord that hook into your computer and retrieve a updated version and register, now another solution is go to the dealer and ask them to remove all codes and test your battery, they should only charge you an hour, or do it yourself with the icarsoft
Make sure you order specific for Jaguar/Range rover

Sounds to me like you have contamination in your fuel; you change the injector and the problem goes away, then comes back in another place, change that injector and the problem goes away, keeps randomly recurring at different injectors. Unless you're doing some other thing at the time you have replaced each injector.
