My first notable problem
After 2 years and 16000+ miles, my dealer discovered the leaking waterpump problem while I was in for the required 2 year service. I must say this vehicle has been absolutely delightful to drive. Other than a minor intermittent passenger door rattle that they are going to fix along with waterpump, I have no complaints other than 2 somewhat annoying design changes Jag made to the Nav system from the version in my 2009 XF S/C. I also miss the UK language choice (British lady) used for voice responses. My passengers were impressed with the British accent in a British car. The dealer tells me the UK voice is still not available in the newer North American model years because Jag didn't think it financially feasible to integrate a North American voice input with a UK voice output.
Because of the waterpump replacement, my dealer gave a 2013 3.0 AWD XF basic as a loaner. It really is basic - no smartkey system, no Nav, no rear camera or front parking warnings, no 16 way seats, no heated or cooled seats, no vehicle side warning system in mirrors, no heated steering wheel, and no permanent way to shut off the Stop-Start system. However, the dealer may be able to disable the thing. So far, the air-conditioning causes the engine to start and run less than 15 seconds after shutdown at a trafic light or traffic backup - if it shuts down at all. In hot weather, I don't think it will save anything. However, the 3.0 supercharged engine wth the 8-speed tran is very impressive. It jumps off the line with surprising acceleration and is no slouch in the passing department even at 70 mph. Crusing at 70, the 3.0 S/C engine with the 8-speed turns at about 1500 rpm vs 2000 for my 5.0 S/C with the 7-speed.

No. It is peculiar to the 5.0 engine for model years up until part of the 2012 model year. I had hoped mine had the newer pump but apparently it didn't.
I had my car in (2010 XF SC) in for a different problem last week, and on their final test drive they noticed a rattling from the engine bay. Turned out to be the water pump - apparently not leaking but something inside had come off and wasn't turning properly making noise... Lucky it was in with them anyway so they replaced under warranty. Unfortunately I was told that the replacement is the same pump that appears to be faulty on many of our cars. So I expect I'll be back in 2-3 years to do it again (at my cost next time...)

Mine apparently had no sign of visible leaking. The tech heard a rattling noise in the engine bay and isolated it as the water pump. Something inside was coming detached causing the rattling as it started to break off. My guess is that they look closely for this issue during service as it's well known, but I suppose it's hard to know anything is wrong until it's too late... For info, mine is 3.5 years and 30k
You're right, I must have hit the wrong key and I missed fixing it.

I hope it's a new design - would be unfortunate to be putting in the same old one. I did ask and was told it was the same - but was the service advisor not a tech, so I may be wrong. Anyone else know?
My 2009 XF with the 4.2 liter needed a new water pump, but it may just be a one-off situation as I see more comments with the 5.0 liter. I had no visible leaks, only a warning message 'low coolant level' now and then.
Weeping. Isn't that what you do when presented with the bill for the repair??
