E-45 is the part number Jaguar uses for oil when submitting a warranty claim. It is not a brand or weight.

I changed my oil at Jaguar today and asked for Castrol Synthetic. The invoice reads 8 55259 5W-20 Bulk Oil. Am I getting the Castrol Synthetic?

Oil change every 6000 miles? That sounds very short. I have a 2010 XF SC and I thought it was 15,000 miles or 1 year. That's what the service booklet from Jag says

Hi guys,

I would prefer to have my oil changed every 7500 miles (I'm a bit **** when it comes to oil changes). If I use Castrol Synthetic and a Jag filter but have the oil changed by an independent mechanic, would I void the warranty? My local Jag service manager suggested this would be the case...?

Thanks,
Chris

The only way the warranty could be voided in this scenario is if Jaguar could prove in court that catastrophic engine failure was caused by your mechanic not following accepted practice in some terribly incompetent and negligent way. Even if this were the case, they would take such a public relations hit they might still prefer to not fight. Service writers like to scare people with that "void the warranty" line, but since the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act in the 1970's manufacturer voided auto warranties are quite rare.

In the UK, for ordinary cars the usual interval is 12 months or 12k miles. However, for this engine it is recommended to change oil at 6k in order to avoid problems with the chain tensioners.
Long intervals are set by manufacturers in order to lower fleet maintenance costs, not because it's good for the engine in the long term.

Agree. The best thing you can do is ignore that ridiculous 15K miles recommendation!
As posted above we have found the sweet spot to be in the 6K-8K range.
Remember that change interval has zero to do with making your car last longer unfortunately.
