Default Potential New Purchase - newbie

So I have been in the market for a car for a while (more than a year). After many test drives and research I have settled on an AWD XF. I recently found a 2013 with 20k miles. As this will be my primary driver I wanted to get something with relatively low miles that I will keep for a number of years. I know I am opening a car of worms on this but as a newbie I'll ask anyways. I was looking at the cost of an extended warranty and I was being quoted around $5k. This seems oddly high to me. What are your thoughts on the warranty? Those of you with much more knowledge and experience with the AWD XF than I do, do you see reliability issues?

Thank you so much in advance.

I think you need to direct your question to the other XF forum. This one is intended to discuss the '09-'15 version.

The version you're asking about is a completely new design that shares very little with the cars of this forum.

Apologies. I'm looking at a 2013. I thought this would be in the "XF and XFR ( X250 ) 2008 - Onwards" forum. Are you saying it should be in the "New XF"?

But he asked about a AWD XF.

Was AWD ever offered in the "original" (i.e., S-Type, DEW-platform) XF?

Whoops, I'm sorry, it appears AWD was offered, but not with the 5.0 V8.

Yes - lots of AWD on the original XF.

Can you tell us a bit more about the warranty. How long, how many miles etc?

As a reference point, I bought the Jag extended warranty that increased mine to 6 yrs and 100k miles (i.e. an additional 3 yrs of warranty). And that was just under 3k US dollars
So 5k sounds like a lot unless you are getting a very long time added

Search around - lots of people pointed to various warranties in other posts on this. I seem to remember Costco being a favourite. 2-3k for 3 years seemed pretty common. But of course depends a lot on what it will really cover and what is excluded...

NEED MORE INFO is it an aftermarket/ non jaguar warranty.? what does it cover? if aftermarket, i would google their name for reviews... i would say for 3 years thats high... car has 2 years left from jaguar.... anything can happen with a car, no matter the make...a warranty that is extensive is great peace of mind...i bought a 06 STR from a private party, it came 2 years left on a warranty that they purchased...it was pretty much bumper to bumper coverage.....saved me on a water pump

Unless something has changed, the Jaguar branded warranty the dealers sell was a great deal for me. I believe the company is Assurant.

While still under factory bumper to bumper, i was able to buy coverage that extended me 7 years from the day I purchased it used, up to 100k miles, for under $4k. So I will have warranty on a 2010 in 2020!

It's already saved me close its cost and I still have 4 years left. You can buy from any dealer, so call around and see if you can get a better price from another dealer in another area of the country.
