Radiator fan turnes on when opening door

Radiator fan turnes on when opening door
-- and it runs at full speed all the time the engine (or ignition) is on.
When I turn the ignition off or just shut the door (not turning the ign.on) it runs for over a minute.
This happens when the engine is cold! Anybody know why?
Please advise.
