Default Rear coolant crossover pipe

Has anyone tried to replace the rear crossover coolant pipe without removing the intake manifold.
I have 2011 5.0 NA 2011. I know I'll have to remove the windshield cowl and maybe the cross brace support but wanted to avoid taking off the manifold.

Thanks

You can remove the rear crossover coolant pipe without removing the intake manifold. On the XF 3.0SC.
I would not say it was easy thou.

Handy if you have the hands and arms of a 6 year old, and double jointed.

The Aj126 (3.0) rear cooling pipe having a 3 bolt manifold connector, and the Aj133 (5.0) having 2 bolt connector stubs.
The trick is to use a mirror to see the bottom 30 torx bolt head when trying to fit the drive bit for removal.

I haven't tried it yet but I probably will change the rear crossover it when I get up the courage to try replacing the spark plugs which should be soon as they are overdue - 110k miles - engine still runs pretty good though

Its been a while but as I recall, the bad part was those torx screws. With most any arrangement of ratchets and adapters that the common person is likely to have in their tool box, you can only unscrew them so far before running into the firewall (or heat shield or whatever was behind it, I'm getting too old to remember details). You've got to have something like this very thin flexible bit driver or its just not possible and even so, keeping a torx bit engaged at extreme tool angles was a bear:

Flexible Bit Driver Flexible Bit Driver

I'm sure to some Jaguar engineer designing an engine without any idea of what kind of car it was going to be installed in, those torx screws made perfect sense, but another example of an engineer I would have fired on the spot. When I reinstalled mine, I went to the hardware store and bought some ordinary hex head cap screws (no flanges), flat washer and a lock washer. The next poor slob who has to do the job again in another eight or nine years when the new PA66 nylon degrades will have it much easier as he will be able to just use a Sears Craftsman 1/4" drive flex ratchet with a 10mm socket. The hex head will retreat into the socket as its unscrewed and come loose just before hitting the firewall, plus it will stay positively engaged without the need for Houdini-like dexterity.

But I took my intake manifold off and did the intake valve cleaning at the same time. I can't imagine trying to reach those screws and maneuver tools back there with the intake manifold in place. Maybe if you are seven foot tall and able to work for long periods while bent over at the waist, but I'm short so can't imagine doing it at all without something like this:

Overhead Creeper Overhead Creeper

To the next poor guy who has to do the rear crossover pipe, just go ahead and take the manifold off and do both jobs at the same time.

Sorry if the links don't work, but you can copy and paste them.

It has been done on the V-6 before but NOT on the V-8. So yes it's possible and has been done without removing the SC.
Now it will be a difficult job. We also have had at least one person change the SC oil again without removing the SC on the V-6 cars.

But for me since I DIY my repairs the added difficulty and the the chance to break additional things means I plan to remove the SC and do some additional maintenance at that time. I have the clunking snout so I can combine a few repairs. Plus I have the 5.0 so it has to come off anyway!
