I own a 2010 Jaguar XF 5.0L engine with 85k miles. Before I left for a week’s trip to St. Louis, I moved the car to a better parking spot. It was then that I noticed the liquid on the floor on the driver’s in a large puddle. I didn’t have time to investigate as I was leaving in the morning. I also noticed the low fluid warning in red. I thought the reservoir was empty of coolant. I would fill the reservoir when. Returned. This is the first set of events.
when I returned in a week, the battery was completely dead, I could not unlock the car. This battery had recently been replaced by my Jaguar mechanic who worked on my ac. I called AAA to help me get into the car as all doors were locked as well as the trunk. I tried the manual key in the door but was afraid to force turning the lock. AAA arrived and the technician knew a lot about getting into the Jaguar. After opening the trunk and had access to the battery, he connected a portable battery booster 1,000 Amps. He turned on the booster after a minute we were able to start the car, however during this time the alarm went off with the horn honking very loud. The technician was able to stop the alarm and let the car run to recharge the battery. The technician then left and I let the car to continue to run. When I was ready to move the car closer to my garage, I discovered two new warnings on the dash, restricted performance and transmission fault both in yellow. In addition when I attempted to put the gear shift into reverse I noticed the gear shift had not risen after the car was started. I was unable to move the car. I called my mechanic to see if he had any answers which he did not.i began to research this problem on Jaguarforums and realized if the battery was low on a charge could cause werid things to happen electrically. The next day I put a trickle charger on the battery and let it charge the battery to a full charge. This took about 6 hours, when the fully charged light lit, I disconnected the charger and went to start the car. But to my amazement the warning light still come on and the gear shift knob had not risen.I am stuck now and not sure what to do. I will pull the engine codes tomorrow then see my mechanic.
Has anyone experienced any of these same problems? Do you think the booster overloaded my electrical system? What should I check next? Thanks for any help you can provide.
The dial still turns even it havent risen up. At least owners handbook claim so.
Yes. The low battery voltage do cause many weird issues. Most likely an full vehicle reset with factory diag software (SDD) would fix them. Ask if any JLR owner in your area have one and can help you.
The water leakage is serious. You have failed water pump or burst water pipe. Get it fixed asap because yu can ruin whole engine if you kep using the car. These 5.0L engines don´t cope well overheat events. (many stories for ruin engines on this forum)
Thank you for the advice. I will contact my mechanic on Monday to see if he can flash the software, else I will try the dealer. I pulled the new codes from the car, PO116 Engine coolant circuit range performance, PO 851 Park/neutral circuit low. Both codes were a yellow warning. Nothing about transmission fault. Can you help me to understand what these codes mean?
The first thing is to erase the codes and then drive some to see what comes back. It's not unusual to get random codes at different times. So before trying to fix anything make sure what the problems are.
They are not common codes so I am not familiar with them which again points to making sure what the problem is.
One thing I would do is replace the battery after what it's been thru. Any idea of it's age?
Can you get us a resting voltage of the car after it has sat all night?
You just might get lucky and have all the problems disappear with a new battery.

I started the car this morning and noticed that I did not have the performance restricted warning light. The transmission knob still has not risen, so I am still unable to put the car in gear. I have disconnected the negative terminal on the battery to see if this will remove the transmission fault error. I’ll report back the outcome.
I just restarted the car and I still have the transmission fault message. The AAA technician told me to check the solelioid switch, there doesn’t seem to be any power to the center counsel. See the picture he sent me. Which solenoid switch drives the counsel?
I would dump anything AI. It's just regurgitated garbage. Use the search function as this forum has all the information you need.
We still need the resting battery voltage after it sits all night?
Again we have seen massive problems caused by the battery and I would start there.

I just tested the battery after sitting all night and got a reading of 11.7. That seems low, what do you think? The battery was replaced in October without any problems until now. Should I have the battery replaced?
Yes it's low. If it's that new I would try to charge it and then re-run the test. Otherwise I would change it. The battery is always a first suspect with these cars. Of course will it fix anything? I don't know but that's where I would start.
