Default Transmission Faults List - Help

Hi,

My 2008 XF 2.7D is showing up the following faults and descriptions on my iCarsoft LR VII. Is it a case of go visit a transmission specialist now do you think?

P2702 - Transmission friction element C apply time range / performance
P2704 - Transmission friction element E apply time range / performance
P0735 - Gear 5 incorrect ratio
P0729 - Gear 6 incorrect ratio
P0829 - 5-6 shift./ Gear load 5-6.

The car is randomly going into “Restricted Performance” mode and sometimes comes up with “Gearbox Fault” and “DSC Not Available” on the dash display.

I’m in the Manchester area so any help or advice to someone who can help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Prior to going any further with diagnostic tests, check the battery voltage across the terminals with a voltmeter. There should be a minimum of 12.6 volts, if not, charge the battery for 8 hours at 2 to 5 amps and retest. If the battery is still not showing 12.6 volts, it must be replaced. A failing or weak battery can cause many electrical 'gremlins' including random DTCs.

Which side of Manchester, the Blue or the Red?

I concur with NBCat, the battery is the first port of call.
There is a good Indy in Macclesfield, Horner & Hudson, and another in Liverpool, depending which side of town you are on.

The battery has just been changed and the iCarsoft LR VII has a great check and all is good for the battery and the charging while running. I’ve also checked it with an amp meter across the battery and it’s fine.

Sorry, other than H&H in Macc', I have only read of the Liverpool guy on the UK Jag forums. I did try one in Wigan once but was very unimpressed and didn't go there again.

If the battery is good are you sure the fluid level is correct?
Might check that and clear all the codes to see what comes back.

Clubsirth1,

i think you’re possibly referring to the gearbox here. It recently had a full fluid change and new filter/sump as a first attempt to resolve it. Then it had the transmission software updated to the latest spec.

OK good. Have you cleared the codes to see what comes back?

yes. Cleared all codes and what’s at the top of the thread came back. Are there any sensors for the transmission that may be spitting back false codes and causing my problems?
