Default Rotors replaced after 4300 miles

Hi Folks,

My dealer in South Florida told me that all my rotors had to be replaced after only 4300 miles on my 2015 Jaguar XF because they were all rusted from saltwater air. I live in a condo complex right on the beach so my automobile is constantly exposed to saltwater air.

Is what happened to my automobile normal for all automobiles or only for 2015 Jaguars? I did not have rotor rusting problems with my previous automobile which was a 2011 Jaguar.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum Priscilla,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X250 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to advise from experience with rotors.

From my experience of owning many different Jaguars over more than forty years and living twenty miles from the sea in rainy England where the roads are covered in salt during Winter, I think you dealer is talking rubbish!

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

+1

cars up here are exposed to salt every day of the winter, not once have I heard of a rotor needing replacement due to this.

What prompted you to take your car to them?

+2 on Graham and Norri's comments

I have seen discs replace due to severe rust and also combined with a thickness issue requiring replacement.

I've ran cars in severe winter weather with snow, salt and slush for months and months running into years. Yes the leading edges can have a surface coat of rust but that's not a real issue

With so little miles covered and so little time on the car it's almost laughable

They must have been short on revenue goals for the month.

I'd be skeptical. When I wash my car I get a light surface rust that is removed on first braking. If the work is done, get the replaced rotors back and take them to another dealer or brake shop. If it's BS I'd stay clear of this dealer. I am assuming they're covered under warranty, so they may not give them up. If not covered, I'd pursue.

I live in the tropics where everything metal corrodes rather quickly. If you park after getting your wheels wet, in a few hours the brake rotor looks like it has leopard spots. But after stepping on the brakes for the first time after you drive the car, the spots disappear.

I too say that your dealer is BS !

I don't think I have ever heard of new Rotors wearing out before new brake pads
