SC 5.0 vs N/A 5.0 will I be disappointed?
Sadly, after 5 years of ownership, last year I had to part w my 2010 XF Supercharged 5.0. Now, I am getting back to the point of buying another. Supercharged models are scarce in my neck of the United States (Oklahoma). I seem to be seeing lots of N/A 5.0 Models for sale around here and in Texas. If I go for a 385hp N/A 5.0, will I be terribly disappointed? Should I just wait and be patient/order a Supercharged or XFR from another region? I loved having 470hp, but felt in every day driving I could rarely unleash them. Thanks.
I have a 2010 XF N/A 5.0 and have been please with it. But I have never owned or driven an SC, so I cannot no relate. I'm sure there are some that will say without hesitation to wait for the SC, especially since you have been used to it before. My guess is that you would be completely disappointed.
For a daily driver, could do a lot worse. I keep thinking about the weight of this era of XF too, as they are heavyweights. So the 385hp may or may not feel quick enough. If I can test drive one, then I will know. I would love to hear from forum members who have driven or owned both.

I've driven both and owned my 2010 XF SC for 10 years now. The 5.0 NA is no slouch - it drives well. But the SC is a totally different beast. Plus better suspension, staggered wheels etc. So honesty if you drove your 5.0 SC for years I think you will be sorry with the NA.
I would look around out of region. Worth a trip for the right car.

That's what I was afraid of. 385hp is definitely ample power, but with the weight of the XF, and our previous experience with Supercharged/XFR variants it may not feel quick enough to us. I will be patient, and wait for a Supercharged, or if I'm lucky an XFR. I have spoiled myself.

Never had or driven the NA version but I had a 2010 XFR for two years, tuned to 550 hp, and I am sure the NA would feel way too slow for me.
Another thing to consider is tuning, there is not much you can do to increase the power or torque of the NA by any more than about 20 hp but the SC is easily and relatively cheaply tuneable to 600+ hp.
Yeah, I have now been convinced to seek another Supercharged model. If I absolutely can't find one, I will then settle for a N/A 5.0. Thankfully, Dallas and Houston Texas have a high number of vehicles. That's probably where I will find it.

Lol, I need to drive a N/A 5.0 to really see, but from what the other Supercharged/XFR owners are saying I will be sadly disappointed. I have spoiled/ruined myself with daily driving the Supercharged for 5 years.
I completely understand. Good luck in your hunt!
I am now hearing some arguments for both sides. So the XF models I am looking at are the 2010-2013. Since they are getting older now, some say for reliability avoid all the Supercharged models. Since I plan on using the car as a primary daily driver, I am conflicted. Lol. I know the Supercharged engines are pushed harder, and under more stress than the N/A 5.0.
I just keep laughing at myself, yes I might want the 470+hp again w a Supercharged, but in reality it's definitely not needed for most daily driving. I have decided I am going with whatever XF I can find w the lowest mileage, and best price, it may be a Supercharged. I think it will more than likely be a N/A 5.0 though, as they are more readily available for sale. I will stop being a spoiled brat. Lol.
No the SC cars don't really have more problems than the NA so forget that little gem of advice!! Possibly the SC snout noise would be considered extra?
The years your looking at can have timing tensioner problems. So you need to know if the oil was changed more than the ridiculous factory recommendation of 15K-16K miles. If not then you might consider adding the repair cost of doing the tensioners and chains to any car you buy that is before about the 2014 model.
Not guaranteed to have problems but the earlier the car the more problems. But do pay attention to the water pump and the plastic cooling parts. These will all fail and just try to catch things before they get bad. Almost all cars will show a loss of coolant way before anything catastrophic happens. The people who get bit on this are the ones that never open the hood.
Please check your fluids regularly!!! Change oil/filter at 6k-8k miles.
Can you DIY the repairs? This is the big one to help keep costs down.

Yep, having owned the 2010 XF Supercharged for 5 years. I know about the weaknesses of the cooling system. Water pumps almost always fail, cross pipes etc. In my heart I want another Supercharged, but I think I need to go with whatever XF variant I find that has the lowest mileage, and proper service records. I want a V8 variant though, not a V6, or Turbo 4 model.
