Default Several issues

Hello Jag Forums,

For about 3 years I have been having issues with my Jag XF 2010. I have taken it to multiple shops and have had varying results with little success.
Issues:
Car starts, can feel engine struggling, car dies. Start again, same issue. Only thing that seems to help is when I feel it start to struggle and die, push on the gas. Eventually it starts and holds.
Shifting issues: after starting and driving for a bit, say I come to a stop at a red light, when I try to take off, everything is fine until I need to shift into second(automatic car) it will keep ramping up the RPMs. It eventually shifts and no more problems through the next several gears.
"Ghost Lights": i've dubbed this issue "ghost lights" because the dome lights will randomly turn on when they feel like it, and you CANNOT turn them off. You can click them a billion times and they won't go off, they turn off when they feel like it. This also happens at night when the car is off and locked which in turn leads to a dead battery.
There have also been other issues which have happened rarely, such as on start up, the brake is so rigid that I can barely press it down. This never happens when driving so as of yet there is no danger while driving. But you can definitely tell when it is happening that something is not right. You really have to press with all of your leg strength to engage the brake when it happens. Other small issues like the Tire Pressure alert coming on when there is no issue with the tires. Also, the power steering went out a few times, but triple A swore this was a battery issue, so i've replaced the battery twice in 3 years.

To me, all of this points to a computer issue. But I am no expert on these modern cars. I did agree with the initial guess of my old car shop that it could possibly be related to my Mass Air Flow, but they repaired that. Btw, we came to this conclusion because of codes that were read. Now this fixed the issues for a short time. Maybe 2 weeks. Then it all started again. I take it back, blah blah blah, they try several more things and nothing works. I take it to a new shop, they try several things, suggesting mainly it is a Mass Air Flow issue, I tell them that we tried that before. They insist so we replace it again. Everything is fine for a few days, then it all starts again.....
I take it to ANOTHER shop that specializes in foreign cars. They laugh at the idea of a Mass Air Flow issue and say it is a computer issue and they see some type of issue with the code. They call in a Jag specialist from the local dealership. They say it's fixed. Yet again, a few days later everything that was wrong before starts again.....
I am at a loss, and am tired of paying for "fixes" that don't work....

Has anyone experienced ANY of this before?? What do you recommend? I am seriously thinking of trading it in... I should have listened to my father when he said "make enough money to buy two jags... one to drive while the other is in the shop"

PLEASE HELP THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

The interior lights is a common issue with the circuit board in the overhead light housing. You can either replace it or some have had good luck installing LED bulbs.

The TPMS is another common fault and there is a TSB for it. They re-flash that modual with new code and it fixes it.

The brakes issue sounds to me like a vacuum leak. It appears to be intermittent as it does not do it all the time. If that is the case, it could also give you several drivability and starting issues.

Not a fun one to find since it is not all the time.

I would also look for a grounding issue. Did your car ever have water inside?

You may want to remove the passenger seat (at least that is where they are on US spec modles) and carpet and have a good look around all the CPUs. Look for moisture or the tell-tail corrosion that is the result of past water issues.

I can totally sympathize with some of your issues. Your father is right...something I find myself saying alot about my own dad's advice...lol...

...your dome lights are fixed by replacing the circuit board. I am guessing this happens to you mostly during cold weather. I did not try switching the bulbs to LED's, but I have heard that works also. I had the board replaced on mine.

Your car is a 2010. Enough said in regard to the TPMS problems. The batteries are going out. I am frankly surprised that they have lasted this long. OEM replacements seem to be the only fix, as the aftermarket ones are hit and miss. The sensors may or may not read them, but OEM are for sure. Plan on $400 for all four wheels.

Your car hesitating during start up sounds like a fuel related issue. If there are no problems cranking and getting the engine going, them I would have your shop look your fuels system.

The shift points on your transmission may be solved by having the transmission flushed and filled. Research the forums as there is LOTS of post in relation to that, but the consensus is try a flush and fill first.

I experienced the stiff brake issue during very cold weather about two or three times when I had my 2011. It goes away rather quickly once the engine warms up. Maybe a vacuum line or brake booster issue?

Hope you get your issues resolved.

I've been finding lately that the engine struggles on my '09 XF at startup sometimes, but I think I've found that it only does that when the wheels are turned. Maybe it doesn't like the extra tug from the power steering pump?
