Default small cloud of blue smoke ?

Hi peeps,
dont know if i have a problem or no, under hard acceleration no smoke but when gear box changes up (both on auto and tiptronic) there is a small cloud of blue smoke, also the same on kick down under hard acceleration. Also had my window down one time while accelerating and heard a small hiss like sound like a very quiet dump valve sound just before auto gear change, just wondering if that was normal as well, sry if these seem silly questions but this is my first jag (and loving it) and never had a turbo car before now,
thanking peeps in advance for any replies

No sure but does the car use any oil? The smoke puffs might be so small that your not consuming much if any oil?
Since yours is a 2009 how many miles does it have? Might not have gotten regular oil changes before you got it too.

What oil are you running? Changed when?
Might try some of the high mileage oils instead.
It could be normal too. But at 90K you really should not be using any oil.

Hi I have put in Castrol magnatec 5w 30 c2 less than 500mm from march 2020 when i bought the car, dont know what oil was used on service just before i took delivery of the car, also no smoke on first start up or any start up, what high mileage oil would you recommend, sorry to be a pain but is that small hiss sound just before a gear change under hard acceleration just a normal "dump valve" noise ? like i said before first jag so all this is new to me but really do appreciate you taking time out to help

Unless you have an error code I would not worry about the hiss. Have you run the codes and erased them?
I don't really know if high mileage engine oils are anything special or not. My recommendation is to run the oil called for by Jaguar.

You don't have a dump valve so not sure what the hiss could be.

Yeah, a small cloud of particulate on hard accleration/gear change is pretty common on diesels - especially if a large amount of time spent idling/low revs around town.

Give it an Italian tune up and see if the smoke puffs decrease/disappear.

You should be using ACEA C1 low SAPS oil in your diesel. You may get away with C3 but should not be using C2.

C1 0.5% ash
C2 0.8% ash
C3 <0.8% ash

C2 & C3 are rated as mid-SAPS, C1 is rated as low SAPS

cheers robinus, that info was invaluable about the type, i also looked it up this morning before i saw your post and what you said is spot on so ty for that, could it be that the c2 oil was causing the smoke ??, could also be that the garage also put in a c2 5w30 oil when doing the service before i picked the car up last march, but anyway not too bothered since i got my mate to put on the error code checker and none came up, will deffo do an oil change over the weekend and see if that makes any difference, thanks again for your input much appreciated

Who knows what the garage put in but I don't think it's likely that the oil is the source of the smoke. Yes, blue smoke is usually oil but it's not appearing on full throttle, only gear changes. Hmmm . . .

Pop on over to the UK based site www.jaguarforum.com where the XF sold was primarily diesel. This is the US based site & the diesel was never sold in that market.

If there’s blue smoke, it’s burning oil

I wasn't quite clear it seems. I don't think the ACEA class of your oil will give you blue smoke (but it will fill up your DPF quicker). The blue smoke in your exhaust is caused by oil being burnt. Keep an eye on your oil level.
