Quite possible.

I spent 30 years at GM dealerships and goodwill policies varied quite a bit over that time. The details can get a bit excrutiating and boring (I could right a book, believe me) so I'll skip all that and merely say that a *mechanical problem* which actually degrades/compromises the function of the vehicle is MUCH more likely to be covered on a goodwill basis that a cosmetic issue that really has no bearing on the operation of the car.

So, the type of fault....not just the dollar amount....comes into question.

I'll also add goodwill policy can vary depending on which pot of money the expense might be coming from. I've never worked for Jag but, still, I'll wager a dollar to a donut that expenses/repairs under the 'Select Edition' warranty care accounted for and administered quite differently than the original new car warranty....and goodwill policies are not the same. If I'm correct then that might come into play with a rear glass.

(GM had their own versions of 'Select Edition' or similar and they were usually administered by GMPP....which, although related to General Motors, is a *separate business entity* from each of the carline divisions. They had their own rules and guidelines. Looking back it was hilarious to watch the infighting between various corporate branches/entities. Didn't always seem funny at the time, though)

Ramble switch turned 'off'

Cheers

Insurance certainly varies by area, person, etc. I've had two Jaguar windshields replaced (98 and 04 XJ's) under "comprehensive" coverage where I have a low deductible and claims do not affect premiums. In both cases, it cost me $100 while the insurance company picked up the balance of the $400 or so tab. Fortunately, deer damage (had an expensive one on another car) also falls under comprehensive.
Of course, when I put a dent in the trunk of my '98 XJ, I paid the $1300 tab rather than making an insurance claim ($1000 deductible). Actually, I made the claim without thinking about it, and the claims processor directed me to customer service, who told me how much my premium would increase and advised me to drop the claim.

I purchased a 2010 XF Portfolio about a year ago. It had only 9k miles on it. It was like new. It now has about 12k on it (doesn't get driven much because it's a 4th vehicle for two drivers). Not a huge deal but during the past year, about 8 times, while the car was stopped but in gear, the RPM's would rev up without foot being on the gas. It wasn't transmission related because the car didn't lurch forward. Nonetheless, it was kinda scary because first instinct is to push hard on the brake as it felt as the car was going to move forward into the intersection. The dealer upgraded the engine management software today so I hope it fixed this issue. My main issue is the rear windshield. A few weeks ago I noticed spots (splotches), like a leopard has, all over the rear glass. At first I thought it was a shadow of some type. I live on a wooded lot so I was thinking it was the trees causing a reflection. I moved the car a few times, and the spots still there. I have never seen anything like it in my life. I'll cut to the chase. The dealer said it's some type of delamination and it's not covered under my select certified warranty. They also contacted Jaguar USA and were told that nothing could be done! I contacted Jaguar myself and they are going to look into it and get back to me next week. I certainly hope they take care of this or I am getting rid of the car and buying a second CTS-V or a new Vette. It'll be my first and last Jag. Has anyone had this problem or heard of it? Thanks. PS - I will try to post some pics later. Thanks.
I had my attorney contact the dealer and jaguar North America. They tried to say my dash leather was normal wear and tear so not covered. Your rear window should be the same. It's not subject to any normal wear and tear so is covered as a faulty part.

Sorry disappeared for a while. I've been enjoying my new Tesla!
I'm joking . The dealer wouldn't take care of it so I contacted Jaguar USA and they agreed that the window is defective and they will pay to replace it less the tax and disposal fee . I think it might have helped that I said it would be my first and last Jaguar!!
Thanks for all the comments, opinions and experiences!
Cheers!
