Default Started playing around with Plasti Dip- Matching my forgestars

Not sure if you anyone has used it before, but the stuff is awesome.

Anyway, Ive never been a fan of all the chrome on the XF, so I did something about it. It's a matte gray/gunmetal that matches my forgestars pretty well.

I really like it, actually. From what I understand you can also peel the plastidip off if you tire of it as well.

Very nice!

That looks great!! Was watching those dipyourcar videos and was thinking about using it as a temporary fix on another car. Love the way it looks on the back of the xf sc. The gunmetal makes the letters pop.

How long did it take to do the grill?
How is it holding up?

It's holding up extremely well, even the exhaust tips. It didn't take that long to do the grill...maybe an hour (mostly spent waiting for layers to dry).

In theory, I love PlastiDip (especially the fact that it peels right off with no permanent repercussions). I've used it on different pieces with varying levels of satisfaction, though. It could be my skill-level in applying it (best bet), but I haven't always been happy with the smoothness/consistency of the finish. Plus, I really like gloss black, so I usually go over it with several coats of gloss spray, which can really accentuate any imperfections in the finish (it can also make the PlastiDip harder to peel off - it more of chips off after the gloss, but it still doesn't damage anything).

I had my hood louvers PlastiDipped and actually really liked the matte finish, but I've since replaced them with the Mina Gallery Carbon Fiber hood louvers. I tried PlastiDipping the chrome bar on trunk, but I never could get it to look right once I glossed it, so I kind of forgot about it for the time being. I think the only thing on my car that's still PlastiDipped is the Jag leaper on my trunk. It's so small that glossing it didn't seem to accentuate any imperfections (or maybe there weren't any because I did a better job PlatiDipping it in the first place?).

Anyway, I'd say that if you can apply it correctly and like the look, give it a shot. It's cheap, completely reversible, and can even be a good way to tell whether you'll like the look of blacking something out without any of the commitment.

Did you remove the grille or paint in place? If you removed the grill how did you do it? Thanks!

You have to remove the entire front bumper/lights from the car to get the grill out. It's a pain...

Looks good! I plasti dipped my front grill as well. I agree the pasti dip doesn't give it a smooth texture like paint, but it does lay flat which makes spraying it on pretty easy.
