Both Jags that I have owned have been British Racing Green..Classic and you can't go wrong with that.

Here's Stratus in the shade and in the sun. It really is very close to black under most lighting conditions:

 

IMO..I like the stratus Grey better than pure black..I think it (here it comes)..Hides dirt better and I like the metallic glint it has.

 

This is what my stratus grey XKR looks like in the light. Not ebony for sure.

 

Mine is Stratus, it was lust at first sight but I must warn you that there is long standing agreement amongst the birds that the moment they see it they must **** on it. In all seriousness it is a great shade for the lines of the XF and with the dark Draco wheels it's magic.
