Hi! I'm new to forums in general.. I've just got a Jaguar XF 2.7 premium luxury about 3 weeks ago and the last few days I've heard a ticking from the engine which I suspect is the lifter stuck as it gets faster when accelerating. But it may be the rocker arm also. I'm only 19 so don't have a lot of knowledge about cars but would really appreciate it if I could get some advice on this please. may me worth noting I've already done a oil flush and filter too but noise is still there.
Thanks
Thanks

The noise is only there whilst driving but it's defo coming from engine bay but if I rev it up in nutural it doesn't make the noiseOriginally Posted by leadfoot4
Are you certain that it's an internal noise? Fuel injectors get noisy sometimes, too.......

Was thinking the same thing as every time I've heard that noise in other vehicles, a little oil tamed it.Originally Posted by Bigg Will
Do you have enough oil in it?

Yeah it's just had a oil and oil filter change but after 17 miles of driving it starts to go away but then comes back in the morningOriginally Posted by Bigg Will

Just for the sake of clarification, the noise was there BEFORE the oil change, correct?
Along that line, what kind of oil did you put in the car? I'm not familiar with diesel engines, but I know that while our '09 XF is happy with regular, name brand, dino oil, our '12 XJ is supposed to be filled with a special formulation of Castrol syn oil. I'm assuming this particular Castrol has a specific blend of additives, that the Jag engineers want. Maybe your car falls into that category also.
Since this Castrol is more expensive anyway, it's just as cost effective for me to take it to the dealer for oil changes, rather than doing it myself, as I've been doing for the last 45 years....

Yes the noise was there before the oil change that's what made me to the flush and change, urmm the oil I used was normal oil from a supplier called Originally Posted by leadfoot4

Leamoco, I drove home from work tonight (16.4 miles) and then drove a further 7 miles to go see a friend, yet the extra 7 miles I could not hear the noise. So really not sure what to think of that?
Thanks

Where are you from?. What year is the car?..is this a diesel?..I would only recommend the correct OIL the Jag maker said to use...Maybe this oil you used is not approved for your type of engine..lot of unknowns here...

It's a 2.7, therefore it's an early XF diesel.

I got involved in another discussion on this website, where a person, unfortunately a new person, no less, asked a VERY vague question, and I was somewhat of a "smart-azz" in my reply. A couple of people busted my chops about it (probably deservedly), and the OP disappeared. I feel badly about that, because I'm generally not that kind of person, but more importantly, the OP of that thread didn't get any help with his problem.
My point is this.....when looking for helpful information, it's very important for the questioner to provide as much background information as possible, especially because this website deals with cars that are not only sold world wide, but more significantly, the powertrains vary by continent. As "DPK" said, there aren't any diesels in the USA, even though this is a big market for Jaguar. Therefore, a very general question, won't necessarily get you the help you're looking for.
I'm off my soapbox, now............

Ok my bad I thought I put a 'D' in front of 2.7... I don't know a lot about Jaguars as I'm 19.. Havnt had a lot of experience with them but I'm my mind anyone who does know a thing or two about Jaguars would know the XF 2.7 is a diesel that's why I didn't clearly specify it was a diesel but I'm new to forums so will take what you have stated in to account next time, thanks for the advice👍🏻Originally Posted by leadfoot4

you see, you need to also tell us where you're at (go to your Profile )..so folks from your area can help you better and others such as myself, would know then that it is a diesel, typical in your Country.

Well, perhaps any Englishman who knows a thing or two, since diesel Jaguars exist in his universe. In the United States (where most readers of this board reside) there is no such animal. You must also remember how rare Jags are here. You will see 100 KIA's and 300 Hyundai's here for every Jaguar. BTW, you still haven't given us your location, Jag model and year.Originally Posted by Murphy.96

Even more important reason to tell us where you are is that certain parts of the world get models and options before other parts of the world.
So in the USA, we never got a 2008 XF.
In my area (Iowa, USA), I can go weeks without seeing a modern Jag.
The XE models are just hitting the USA and the F-Pace is still a half year away.
Sad, because I want to trade my wife's SUV for a F-Pace and I will most likely be forced to wait until Spring 2017 to do it (don't want to buy one right before winter).

How come it's so rare for a diesel jag XF in the USA? the jag only had the 2.7 for 2 years (08-09) then moved on to a 3.0 diesel insteadOriginally Posted by 10 XF Premium

USA EPA laws.
In other words, stupid law makers can't fathom that even if a diesel engine causes twice as much pollutants, they get 3 times better mileage so you still output less emissions per mile.
The new XE and F-Pace is supposed to be sold with a 4cyl TD option. The first Jag that is offered withy a diesel in the USA ever.
