Default Takata Airbag Recall

Just got a letter from Jaguar telling me to schedule an appointment to replace airbags under a safety recall. Recall was put up a couple months ago but looks like they finally have the parts to do the fixes. Check your VIN on Jaguar's recall website to see if you're affected:

https://www.jaguarusa.com/owners/vin-recall.html

"As postulated early on, environmental moisture, high temperatures, and age as associated with the defect that can improperly inflate the airbags and even send shrapnel into the occupant. To date, there have been 11 deaths and approximately 180 injuries due to this problem in the U.S."

The official recall below:

I was notified a while ago and had the recall performed a week or two ago. They had the car for 3 days. Seemed odd since I was originally quoted 1-2 hours.

They weren't working on your car for 3 days. It just sat there.

Yup, I figured that. Apparently some bolts had to be ordered for the swap. You think they would have them on hand before the appt.

No the car just sat there based on workload. Its 2 hours after they finished the work already in the shop and cars ahead of you. I would suspect the advisor just gave you a generic parts ordered cause its only 8 10mm threadlocking nuts. Theyre not special just new and we have them in bolt and nuts bins if we run out.

Got mine replaced yesterday. They gave me a 2016 XF 35t for a day while they were working on it. X260 (V6 SC) is much lighter at 3770lbs but the X250 definitely has the jump on features. For starters, I'll take the Bowers and Wilkins over the Meridian any day of the week. The 35t didnt even have keyless entry 0.0 on the model I got.

Full comparison coming soon

I have some confusion re: Takata airbag recall. My 09 XF is Canadian spec but the car was registered in California initially by the previous owner and now by myself upon purchasing it in 05/2017. Being that it's Canadian spec - it shows "invalid vin" when I run it on the NHTSA website as well as on the JagUSA site. I called Jaguar Canada and was told they show no open recall on my particular vehicle and not to worry about it.

The recall info on the NHTSA site states that any 2009 Jag XF that was delivered or ever registered in certain states - California being one of them - is subject to the recall.

My concern is that I'm "slipping through the cracks" due to the Canadian spec and subsequent registration in California and my vehicle is not being identified as one in need of the repair and that I continue to drive with this potentially deadly safety issue.
This is my first Jag and I've never been involved before with a recall situation ono any vehicle I've ever owned. Am I missing something or do I have a legitimate safety concern?

Just took my car in for the fuel tank filler neck replacement ( www.cars.com/articles/2010-2015-jaguar-xf-fuel-tank-issue-1420682615983) and they said that they were going to replace the passenger air bag while it was in.

Turns out they had plenty of them on-hand and there didn't appear to be any problems with Jaguar's supply of them.

So, if you've been waiting to hear back from Jaguar about that recall, don't...

Call your local dealer and ask if they have the passenger airbag in stock and if you can have the re-call done.

But, is there also a recall for the driver's side air bag? I don't remember hearing that there was.

My 2009 got the recall, it was the passenger bag. I dropped my car off, they gave me a loaner, the job took about 7 hours.

Does anyone know why it seems that only the passenger-side air bag needs to be replaced? Does it make sense that the driver's-side would be sourced from a different manufacturer?

It's the inflator that's faulty, not the bag itself. Inflators, like bags, come in different sizes and flavours so I'd guess the inflator on the driver side of the Jag is different. Supposedly has to do with the size of the bag and how much force needs to be applied etc.. Well, this could easily be checked by looking at the parts no. on both inflators and comparing.

Have a look at

Default Part Numbers

Does anyone know if there's a list of Takata or Jaguar part numbers for the affected airbags. I haven't yet heard anything from Jaguar Australia regarding my vehicle. My part numbers are as per the attached photo.

Something interesting to consider: Chrysler can and has included certain vehicles in recalls that don't specifically list their VINs per customer requests. (Same with Ford, GM, and Mazda) They won't always do this, but airbags are really the last line of defense in a collision, it's very important.

If you tell a service manager/ fixed operations manager about not feeling safe, they'll usually make a call to the dealer's service rep, or if you phone up customer care directly I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help. JaguarUSA has been on point with every request I have ever made.

Mate, the full updated list of Oz recalls is here:

https://www.productsafety.gov.au/rec...airbag-recalls

And yes the XF X250 is on it, so check the VIN list to see if yours is included.

I just checked it myself and my old XFR is on the list, so bad luck for the new owner. Even worse luck for him (and you) is that the recall for all X250's is both driver and passenger airbags, so "that will be an all day job sorry to say sir".

Okay, thanks for the link. My vehicle is on the list.

I was unsure of where I stood because on my compliance plate, it shows 2008 as the compliance date but the VIN vehicle details (identification) using the numbers and letters to decipher where the vehicle was manufactured etc. shows it as a 2009 vehicle. All of the media releases that I found don't mention the XF 2008 vehicles as being affected.

Hi,

I also received a notice from Jaguar stating that my 2015 XF 3.0 SC was involved in the Takeda airbag recall. The notice also said that the parts needed for this recall would not be available until March of 2019. I thought that this was a bit ridiculous so last week I contacted my dealer who said that they have the needed parts and that I can schedule the recall work for any date that I want. I scheduled it for the first week in July. The dealer service rep asked if I would need a loaner and I said no because the Jaguar notice stated that this was a 2 hour job. My service adviser confirmed this so I will just wait for two hours. This is not a problem for me since it takes 1 hour to get to my dealer and another hour to get back to the dealer.
