Default Tire pressure system monitor

Hi i have my tire pressure monitor bouncing around showing all 4 tires low pressure. This eventually goes away after a few minutes but starts again next day..I shut off the ignition and lowered the air pressure to 20 lbs in each tire and then put ignition on and filled to 35 lbs...This did not work and wonder what others have found out about this.

I would greatly appreciate the help

John

I doubt all 4 of the tire pressure monitors failed at once. It may be the main control unit that all of the monitors transmit to. I had issues with my 2008 XJ but the display only showed the right front as being faulty, not low on tire pressure. Get it to an independent Jaguar Technician for a repair. These TPMS issue are aggravating and will drive you up the wall. The Jag. scan tools can pinpoint the issue in a minute and you will avoid the costly attempts at replacing parts hoping it will be the fix.

Good luck and keep us posted on the fix!

Common issue. Your tpms software needs to be reflashed. Dealer should do this free of charge as there was a tsb addressing this issue.

I had the exact same problem on my 09 and the reflash sorted it

I had them do this and since I was out of warranty, it cost me a half hour of labor. It did not fix the issue. Next step is to have them do a full diagnostic, which probably means they're going to replace the TPMS module.

Wow that's the first I've heard of the software reflash not correcting the issue. I suppose in certain cases the module is actually faulty and needs replacement.

Honestly before you go replacing anything I'd have another dealer do the reflash again. If it doesn't work then go for the expensive fix. The rotating warning seems like it has to be a software issue. If a hardware issue were present I'd assume the tpms system would throw a fault all of the time.

I had exactly the same issue as the OP and the s/w flash worked. Touch wood I haven't seen a low pressure warning since then. I paid for an hour but it also included a 140 point inspection as I only had the car a week. It was inspected by an independent but I wanted the garage that has serviced it since new to give it the thumbs-up, which they did....

TPMS batteries last about 5 years or so. If the radio signals get weak then you can get these symptoms.

I experienced these symptoms occasionally on my '09 in wet weather also.

When my car was just under 5 years old, it was time to replace the tires, so I had the sensors replaced at the same time. The symptoms started a month or so later.

I had the same problem and I changed the TPMS module under the passenger seat and it fixed it. It is pretty easy but the seat is really heavy.

That's not normal. Either the sensors were not good quality, a receiver was dislodged, the "learning" mode was not observed or perhaps the ECU failed.

Wow, you did this yourself? Please elaborate. How much did the part cost you? Did you remove the seat from the car or were you able to get the job done by just unbolting it and moving it rearward?

I had to remove the whole seat, the forward and rear floor sills, the bottom plastic b-piller, roll back the carpet, and remove the black heater/a/c ducting. Then there is a little black box with two nuts holding it down. Make sure you disconnect the battery after you remove the seat. it took me an hour from start to finish.

Did you just plug in a new box? I was under the assumption that these needed to be programmed.
I am in the same boat as others here. Mine will start with one tire showing low and then move around. Sometimes it is one or two and sometimes it will move around to all 4. Then it will go away for a while and pop back up completely random. I am going to ask them about a re-flash of the software and see if that works.

I just pluged it in, no programming or anything. Before you plug the battery in make sure your tires are exactly the PSI you want them (35 psi). Once you start the car for the first time make sure you let the car sit still at idle for 15 minutes and right after that drive above 12.5 mph average for 15 mins. Then it should be good from there. I hope this helps I got my TPSM module from ebay $91.

Great info. And to think you did all that in just an hour. Wow!

Figured I would type up an update for others if they run into this problem. After a while of mine having the problems I stated above, I called the local Milwaukee Jaguar dealership. I explained the issues and what I had read here and other places. The tech said that he doubted it was just a software update issue. He said that usually if that's the case it will show a full TPMS Fault warning. Which does not corroborate with what I have read. He figured one of the receiving sensors was out either dislodged or possible wire fault. Which didn't make sense to me since I would figure only that corner would come up then. I brought up that it could be the main TPMS module, but he kind of brushed that off and said possibly. He said I can bring it in and they will check it out for $130! Now I had been dealing with this for about a month, since I put my summer rims and tires on. No ****, that night it came up as a full TPMS Fault on the way home. That lasted the way home and the trip to work in the morning. I started the car at lunch that day and it was gone. Everything back to normal and has not come up since. I have no idea...

To be clear, the issue I had may be different from what John501 is experiencing (low pressure warning bouncing from tire to tire). I'm just getting a "Tire Pressure Monitoring System Fault" message that comes on about every 3-5 weeks and then goes away after 20+ miles.

On my 2012 XF Portfolio I'm also experiencing a TPMS intermittent fault. The symptom is that the low pressure instrument cluster light will illuminate followed by the instrument cluster low TP graphic visually displaying each of the four wheel/tire assemblies having low TP. It is intermittent and happens about 25% of the time.

Unlike legitimate low TP warnings, when this happens the user is not given the option to disregard the warning on the top center of the nav screen as you normally would.

The car is under warrantee and I have an appointment on Monday morning. The service dept customer service person stated that this was a common problem on 2012 XF and that there was a sw update they would plug in and push. I'll update you all afterwards on if this is successful.

Update: the dealer "Found TPMS software not up to date. Adjusted tire pressures and updated TPMS. 88.99.62"

So far, that seems to have corrected the issue. I'll update if it acts up again.
