Tire Replacement on 2011 XF
Live on Long Island in New York. XF is a V8 engine and car came w/ the Continental ContiPro Contact 245/45 r18. Other than providing a quieter/smoother ride on the highway, don't see that it offers a lot more in the way of handling, especially on wet surfaces. Cant justify spending a second $1000 on another set of four. Anyone have any luck w/ a different brand of tire. Looking at purchasing either Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season or Eagle Sport All-Season. Comments, thoughts suggestions?
The XF that I bought new still has the Continental tires on it, and the one I bought used had fresh Hankook V12's on it when I bought it with 23K miles. I really think the Conti's ride and handle better, so I will gladly pay a couple hundy extra for the Conti's when it's time to change tires again.
Whatever you buy, I think Goodyear is one of the worst tires out there. I have hated every set I have bought for any other cars.

Check Tire Rack there are lots of comparisons of tires there. Conti Pro Contacts are pretty good, Bridgestones likewise.

For a great tire at a very good price, I would consider buying from Tire Rack and getting the Yokohama s Drive tires. They handle great in the rain and grip very well on dry pavement. They are probably not as quiet as the Continentals because of their block pattern which helps in the snow and flooded streets, but they are a perfect all around tire. Tire Rack gives you a great price for tires and shipping.
Discount tire has them for 160.00 shipped in the 18" size with a $25 visa pre paid card (double it if you use their CC) on 4 tires.

I got mine at the tire rack, $751.40 with a $100 pre-paid visa gift card as a rebate. The jaguar dealer installed them for free as the defective conti's had only 15,000 miles on them. Way, way better. Not even in the same ballpark. I've been buying BF Goodrich's best tires for my sports cars for many years now. They never let me down. Not goodyear hard, nor Michelin soft. Right in the middle with great wet/dry traction at all speeds.
I was in a similar situation just a few weeks ago. Purchased a 2011 XF with tires that, while still legal, were very worn out. After a lot of research I purchased 4 of the Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season tires, and I've been very happy with them. The car feels much more stable and grip that these have on the wet streets is amazing. Hope that helps...

It sounds like you need to move up to a set of DWS or from Michelin or Pirelli. I run Michelin Pilot A/S3 on my Subaru BRZ and they are amazing tires.
Pirelli PZero Nero A/S are better in the wet than the Michelin according to Tire rack testing. Conti DWS have been the gold standard for years until these newer competing tires came out. Conti is working on the new DWS.
What you notice in the ProContact is the softer ride and longer tread life requirements of that level of tire. Excellent tire but not a performance tire.
I agree!
My '09 XF came with Contis, and from past experience, I'm not a big Conti fan. I replaced them with Bridgestone RE970AS tires, about 18 months ago, "just because". I like the performance of them a LOT better than the Contis, but I'll qualify my response a little, by saying that I have dedicated snow tires for this time of year.
I changed from 18" Conti ExtremeContact DW to 20" Bridgestone Potenza S-04 "Pole Position" about 10 months ago, and the Bridgestones have been excellent. Good grip wet and dry, reasonably smooth and quiet, and not wearing too quickly.
Remembering these are summer tires and not at all suitable as winter/snow tires.
The Bridgestones were on special at Tire Rack, and I suspect they still are.

Should I stick with the Conti's or move to the Michelins??
Thanks.
