Default Tow Hook Cover in Front Right Bumper

I looked at my car today and realized that the tow hook cover in my bumper was gone! I'm assuming the cover got weak and could not hold itself in. However, I have no idea what the cover attaches to so don't know if that's the reason it fell out. There are some irregular shaped pieces in the hole. If anyone knows what that is supposed to look inside, I can post a photo to see if it's normal.

I'm also assuming those covers come plain and aren't color matched. Anyone know for sure?

Here's a pic of mine hanging foul after I prised it off.
Took me a while to figure out how to get it off, the secret is to prise from the top, where it turns out there is a little tang.
As you can see it has a little plastic retainer strap which in theory should stop it from falling off, so who knows what happened to yours.
It looks like it is black ABS to start with then sprayed the same colour as the car.
The part number on mine is 9X23 17E810 - AA.

Here's the part numbers;

It appears that they do need to be painted to match the car.

btw p/n 9X23-17E810-AA = C2Z10271

I found this on FleaBay: Jaguar XF 2010 Front TOW EYE Cover Genuine Black Free Postage 8x23 17E810 | eBay
Confirms the part is plain black and needs painting.

I had to use mine once and once you take it doesn't go back in. I'm pretty sure they are made to not go back in once they are used so you have to buy a new one from the dealership.

Oz...Thanks for prying yours off and taking the photo. It does look like that I just need to get a new cover. And it is strange that it just fell out, but at least what is left looks like what it's supposed to be. Hope what NeoGod said isn't the case though.

Mine was sorta loose when I got mine..I was not able to get it to lock it in place..So I used some rubber cement and that held it in place..Hope I never have to use the tow hook though, just that it means something is wrong where I can drive it.

Mine clipped straight back in no problem.
Could be that once you attach the towing hook it becomes stuffed.
