Mild nightmare going on here. 2015 “money pit” Jaguar xf. Now were getting the Red “cannot apply parking brake” on the dash. As we already spent $5000 this year in repairs we were living with this. I figured what the heck. Let’s see if I could possibly reset the car by unplugging the battery for a bit. Why not. After doing so it’s requiring the brake calibration. Well the procedure cannot be completed as the parking brake will not function. So for the past 3 weeks she has been driving with a constant beeping. She said she just turns the radio up lol.
So the dealer stated it looked like soda was spilled in the gear selector unit causing a short. $$$. An independant mechanic told me the error codes came back to a Transmission Control Unit. Quoted me $800+ for the part, $300 for labor and another bit of money for reprogramming. I found an online repair service that will repair it for $385 and no programming would be required.
So finally my question. Is the transmission control unit they are speaking about. Is this the transmission control unit?
I sure hope so. This I can remove and I’m willing to take the $385 chance if it might resolve the issue. Seems some posts say the TCU is in the transmission itself.
Thank you in advance. I love this car but it has been a very bad year. $600 turn signal, $4000 turbo, $2000 in brakes, and not this.
I can't help you on this specific issue. But - you need to find a better independent shop. Sounds like a lot of guessing by different people in your post. And if someone really charged you $2000 for the brakes, you were robbed... Not sure if you can DIY (parts around $400 for good aftermarket rotors and pads and maybe $600 for OEM). I just did mine in about 2 hours for all four rotors and pads. Unfortunately think the prices you are paying will quickly make this car unaffordable
Pull the codes and post back here. It's a very knowledgeable community and someone here can help. If you can't pull codes buy a code reader or go to an auto parts shop who will usually pull for free.
Pulled the old unit up and it was covered with what looked like a soda spill from who knows when. Disconnected and douched it in contact cleaner and compressed air hoping it might clean up a connection. No luck but I feel luck they gear control portion still works. The part is not currently available according to multiple local and online dealers. If anyone knows of a new warrantied Transmission Control Module Part number C2Z30975 in the United Stated please message me. Jaguar says "unknown" timeframe.
I don't feel confident but I would be willing to try to bypass the actual switch to set and release the parking brake by jumping the correct colored wires if anyone even has a theory on which ones to use. All I want to do calibrate the damn brakes and stop the dinging.
I see them on the dealer sites and no mention that they are not in stock?
Here is one in the UK. Says in stock with a 2 day ship out?? 487 GBP Jag Part
Here is one in the US for $735 and no mention of it being out of stock?? Shift Assy.
I also find one on EBay for a high price of $939 plus shipping from the UK. Shifter
So it's expensive but I think you can find one. I will say for the cost of these I would seek a used one as they don't fail very often and there should be a good supply of used ones?
But what happened to your repair place? That looks to be the cheapest option unless you can find a good priced used one.
Again I must point out that without codes you could easily spend a lot of money chasing the wrong things. This is a very expensive part so I would want to be VERY sure that was my problem before dropping that kind of money on a guess??
Note I have had poor luck cleaning up anything that has been soaked in soda and/or coffee. Usually it's eaten into various parts and I can't get it clean enough to stay working properly. Also take some time and clean the inside of the console out the best you can. That stuff makes a royal mess!!!

I’ll check those but the online dealers list them only to reply they are out of stock when I call. I was told this 13 times before I gave up and tried here.
1st link no good. 2nd link “not in stock” when contacted. 3rd link might work. A little more $ but not ridiculous.
I keep my eye out for used ones but I am apprehensive about them.
The repair place was obtaining one from the dealer as well. The price for the part was the same but they were having the same luck obtaining one.
I am leaning more towards the shop. Pretty sure I will have to have it programmed to the car and at least if they do the work they say needs to be done it should be a sure fix and not a gamble for me.
