I have a 2013 Jaguar XF Sport brake 2.2 diesel. The car now has 65k on the clock but only 48k when I bought it.
One of the things that disappoint me with the car when I first bought it was what appeared to be a Turbo lag specifically when I pulled out of my road on to the main road which is a sharp uphill pull away. The car would lag in acceleration for a couple of seconds before the Turbo kicked in and away she went. Never having driven an XF before I just assumed this was a tuning fault which could possibly be rectified by a remap but never went there. I could live with it.
A couple of days ago I had a big red triangle come up with “Reduced Performance” and the car went into limp mode. Would not accelerate above 2000 rpm and had no power to get up any hills faster than 25 mph. Called out the RAC (as they are freeish) and they plugged in the computer and I had numerous codes relating to the Turbo and Turbo actuator. No hoses were loose or holed, the Turbo was not making any noises it was just not spooling up. Jaguar does not sell the actuator stand alone only a Turbo and Actuator for around £1300 according to my local Jaguar Indy.
Found a company on Ebay called Essexrecon who sell refurbished Actuators for £125 and thought it might be cheaper than a new Turbo and how hard can it be to fit. There are others who supply them for a similar price.
Actuator arrived today and although access is restricted and fiddly the part is only held on with four 8mm bolts and a circlip. Careful not to drop anything as to do so would mean removing the belly pan to retrieve it I removed the old and fitted the new. Took no more than an hour. I came across this youtube video of the old and the new side by side and this was exactly as mine was. Very slow to return compared to the new one.
Having fitted the new Actuator I took the car for a test run and the first thing I noticed straight away pulling out of my road was the pickup in acceleration up the hill was superb. No lag in the Turbo what so ever. No red triangle, instant power, good result. I will take the car into my local garage and have all the fault codes cleared next week.
So in summary if you are suffering from a little bit of Turbo lag have the Actuator checked and possibly replaced before you breakdown on an important journey and are left stranded at the bottom of a hill.

Hi, sorry to ressurect an old thread but wondered if I could pick your brains please?
I've got the same engine, just a couple years older and with 85k on the clock. Recently had restricted performance pop up (sometimes it comes up when I start the car, others after a few mins of driving - turbo still kicks in in these cases a good few times before the message). Also have the engine management light on constantly regardless of if the car is in restricted performance (this didn't happen for the first couple of days of it going into rp). Scanned it with the torque app and had the following codes - p0046 - main one, p0047, p0048 and p259e (the 47 and 48 ones only appeared after the engine management light appeared).
Opened up the bonnet and can see the actuator but all the bolts are on the other side where I can't see them. I can feel them with my hands, is it just a case of undoing these blind to get it out? I pushed the arm part of it and it moves back just like the old one in that video you posted so I'm hopeful it's just that! Planning on getting it out and taking a look / sending it off for a refurb if I can so any tips or advice on getting it out would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

It was over a year ago since I did this but from my memory it was as simple as undoing the bolts, removing the electrical convector and lifting it off. As I said previously though be careful not to drop anything down the back or you will have to remove the belly pan to retrieve it.
Not had any further problem with mine so it certainly cured the fault fitting the new actuator.
