Default Two brake questions

First….does the 09 XF Supercharged have brake pad sensors (i.e. right front pad and left rear pad ??) and second….do you change the brake fluid when changing rotors and pads. What if you just changed the rear and 2 months later change the front.

Chuck, I am not sure about the brake pad sensors as I am not an avid XF follower. Hopefully one of the other members can chime in on that one. As for the fluid, must you. NO!!!! Is it a good idea. Of course. Brake fluid is hydroscopic (ie, likes to absorb water). Even though it is inside of the brake system, some water still makes it into the system and will change the color of the fluid from an almost clear to a dark green color. The more water in the brake system, the more likely you are to have corrosion of the brake system parts which is going to lead to future problems. Pay me now, pay me later. Brake fluid is cheap and with about $5 in parts, you can bleed the brakes yourself (some 1/4" tygon tubing with a little bit of masking tape is all you need). The big thing is bleeding the brakes till you see the fluid change color. It will be pretty obvious when the color change happens. If you need me to go into more detail, just say so. Once you read how I do it, you will laugh at how easy it really is.

Well the 09 naturally aspirated does not have pad sensors. Not sure about the s/c but would be surprised if it was any different.

No pad sensors for '09. Change brake fluid every three years according to Jaguar, regardless of brake pad changes. It is often cheaper to do the brake fluid flush when you get a pad change though.

Front brakes last about twice as long as the rears, roughly speaking, longer if you do mainly highway driving.
