Default Using Navigation while driving

All,

Is there a way to trick the navigation system into thinking the car is stopped so you can use/enter addresses while driving? Please, no speeches about distracted driving, I mostly care about times when you're putting something in at a traffic light and have to start moving, etc. In every car I've had there was a way to cut a wire or short a pin to trick the system into thinking the parking brake was set, etc. Any such trick for our cars? I have a 2011 XFR.

Thanks,

-Ross

Would love to know this too - but more from a perspective that my passenger can type in a new address while I am driving.

I 3rd this motion! So aggrevating to have to pull over just to set the destination... Wish there was a passenger seat enable or something to that effect to where if there was a passenger in the car it would allow for it...

My 2013 allows the address to be entered/modified while driving.

You can get a hacked set of DVDs for the navigations system. You can hack your own by taking the DVD's from a 13 or newer and read all the files, then do the same on yours.

In the files choose the system files from the 13 but the map files from the 11 make a signgle disk from that and load it Shoudl work..

Note: it may freez the nav and you will need to reboot and put the original system back in

I'd love to see this, too, but I'm not holding my breath. I can't see a disc swap making a difference, though I'm no expert. If I remember correctly our '11 Jag's came with a Navteq system, which locks out inputting during motion.

I'd pay real money to get that feature disabled. It actually pushed me to just use my cell phone for navigation. Easier to fiddle with putting the phone on the dash than it is to play the stop light inputting game with the car.

Nissan and Infiniti do this, and I've thoroughly hated it since day one in 2006. Luckily, years ago someone came up with a way to bypass it. I've added this switch in 2 M45s, a Pathfinder and 2 Armadas. To access all of the functions from the factory, the car should be still with the E-brake on. Flipping this switch makes the car think that the E-brake is on (E-brake dash indicator does not come on) and interrupts the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) signal, so it thinks it's at rest. The GPS tracking is disabled when it is switched over, however syncs back up within seconds after switching back. I guess first we'd have to find out what signals cause the Jag Nav to disable, then find a wiring schematic, wire locations, trim removal directions, and a place for a switch.
My switch is in a similar location to the one in the thread below, but is centered between the others on its side with no light, so unless you really look, it's hard to tell it's not OEM.

Very nicely done in your Armada Tex, I'll have to make that same mod to my '08 Pathfinder LE as I have the same issue there. As the voice control in my Pathfinder works pretty well I haven't really cared but unfortunately the voice control in the Jag isn't working at the moment (goes into the shop next week for that and other small issues). So the only way I can use the Jag nav is if I pull over, less than optimal. Funny that I can't do that but I can browse through all the music on my thumbdrive which IMHO isn't easy to do when you have 20GB of music on it.

Pretty surprised no one has worked this out yet for the XF (and most likely the XJ and XK) - has anyone seen a schematic of the wiring into the back of the unit? I can't imagine this will be impossible as I've been able to work it out on all the other cars I've owned. I'll admit though the thought of cutting wires back there with this car scares me a bit.

Any further input or anyone have that schematic?

Thanks...here's the guide I used for the M45 with a crude sketch and one for the Pathfinder...I'm surprised these bookmarks still work.

We use the switch all the time, especially if my wife is driving alone with our twins watching a DVD in the 2nd row. She flips the switch and allows her full controls to the DVD menu on the front to restart it, instead of pulling over on the shoulder or fiddling with the remote for the rear monitor. Also allows us to scroll through the full selection of nearby places (gas stations, restaurants, etc instead of limiting it to only 4 while moving...ridiculous )

Someone's gotta have a friend in Jag service right? Tis the season

Default Nav while driving

I have a 2012 XF supercharged and can enter all nav settings while driving. Maybe its a car to car variation

This just pissed me off today when I got a call that a meeting was cancelled and had to exit the highway to enter my new destination. Very very frustrating.

Well I found this with some schematics, not sure if it tells us everything we need to know.
