Morning all, I'm new and shamelessly joined to try and get some help. as reading through the old posts there are some very knowledgeable people here.
I've just done a timing chain job on my 5.0sc engine. (Bought as a non runner)
replaced the chain, guides and tensioners using all the correct tools.
rotated the engine a number of times all the locks still fit happy days.
build everything start up and it's FINE. runs lovely no codes no lights on the dash.
fast forward a week take the car for MOT not issue all good
the next morning start it up and the engine light comes on straight away.
with the codes shown here
Despite this it seems to run and drive fine
This is where it gets weird
To my understanding bank 1 is as you stand infront of the car the left bank (Drivers side) however cylinder 268 are on bank 2?
Now for the really weird bit
from my research here mostly the live data should show at idle
intake cam around 75°
exhaust cam around 120°
what I have is roughly that see pic
From this data it looks to me like I have a problem with BANK 2?
however the error code clearly states Bank 1 which looks fine
I'm now very confused 😕
any bright spark shed some light on this ?
currently thinking I may have a broken phaser on the bank 2 inlet but i really dont want to pull it all to bits again if im missing something obvious. However i suspect ill have to 😭
Both cams on bank 2 are out by about 18 degrees which suggests maybe that the chain on that side has a skipped one tooth on the crankshaft. I can't remember offhand what one tooth equates to exactly. Maybe you can do a calculation. I can't see it being a phaser problem because both cams are out of time.

however on closer inspection the cams on bank 2 were slightly off.
its possible to fit the locks with the slots slightly off horizontal.
the cams were on the limit of adjustment in the cam phaser so they couldn't be advanced any more.
I've moved the sprockets one tooth to the right and reset the cams so that they are perfectly horizontal.
fingers crossed that's it
Sounds like you found the problem. The cam tools should have thumbscrews that you tighten until the slots are parallel to the head surface and level to each other, CRITICAL. Then you have to use a puller to tension the chain before tightening the phaser bolts.
FYI I have found you can check the cam timing without removing the cam covers by removing front covers and checking phaser slot position carefully against photographs I have. Makes life a lot easier if timing is found to be correct after all.
