Default What engine oil can I use safely?

I have the 2013 XF 3.0 (V6 SC). The owner's manual states that engine oil should meet the "Ford WSS-M2C925A" standard. Is it absolutely necessary that the oil I use meet this standard? I do not want to do harm to my engine, but I also do not want to do my oil changes at the dealer. What does that standard even mean? I have read that the standard was replaced by Ford WSS-M2C945A which most full synthetics meet. Any help is appreciated. I am not concerned about the warranty (out of warranty), just the health of the engine.

This is potentially a 'Pandora's Box' when engine oil is discussed on this forum!

Use oil that meets the SAE equivalent of 5W-20, such as Motorcraft or other popular brand.

So you don't feel that the Castrol Professional OE is necessary? It is the only oil that I can find which currently meets the "Ford WSS-M2C925A" standard. Some people swear that you must use oil meeting that 925A spec but I am unconvinced.

The OEM castrol oil is only a titanium FST variant of their Castrol lineup. There is no reason not to use other synthetic brand oils. Ford 925A is a pretty obsolete standard..
Just use a good ester oil and change it every 3k miles.

Thank you for that information. I assume that you use a different brand/ standard in your 2013 XFR and haven’t experienced any problems?

I am currently using motul 300v 0w20. Aside from the price and short mileage, the car runs perfectly.

Excellent. By "short mileage" do you mean the intervals at which you change the oil or your fuel economy?

Sorry that was very unclear. I mean roughly 3k miles OCI.
It is basically a stop and go traffic all the time in here, so it is strongly suggested to change oil filter and engine oil on a shorter interval than the RoW.

I see; thanks for clarifying. I also appreciate your input on the subject.
